Good find. Bunnings is selling Varta AA Alkaline Batteries - 30 Pack for $9.92 which comes down to 33 cents each, much cheaper than the 55 cents Varta High Energy.

      • The Longlife batteries are cheaper at Bunnings as they're a Bunnings exclusive item. That's true. However, they're designed for long life in low output devices such as wall clocks or radios. The VARTA High Energy has nearly a 6x longer lifespan in higher-energy devices like toys, flashlights, etc.

They're essentially designed for different purposes. If you're using them for a simple devices, go with the Longlifes. If you're after a more serious (or industrial) application, choose the High Energy.

        Hope that helps.

        • Absolutely all of that is omitted in your description.

        • Can you post a reputable link proving the 6x longer lifespan claim?

    • whatcell fail to test under differentiating and pulse loads. The appear to apply the same current until depleted and this is not an accurate representation of how a battery is used in real life unless you have it in a clock, watch or other continuous discharge situation. I cant see any details of the internal resistance of the cell, the results under different load, varying loads etc. I will also point out his affiliate status on all the brands so question his actual qualification in testing to international standards. I know i could tweal a couple of his input settings on his tests and it would give different results.

Happy to be re-directed and proven wrong.

The VARTA high energy is without doubt a far superior product.

We have the Varta Energy battery available too but this promotion is focusing on the Premium products.

  • I am really curious - Whats the actual difference (in performances) between these Varta Alkalines and the SCA branded Alkalines which costs only $5 for 24 pieces

    • +1

Or these Varta Longlife alkalines 30 for $9.82 https://www.bunnings.com.au/varta-aa-alkaline-batteries-30-p…

      • Yep cheaper at Bunnings

        • The main difference is that the VARTA High Energy (not the Longlifes) are German-made and run about 6x as long as normal batteries.
The Longlife is designed more so for low-output, steady usage like a wall clock or a radio than for torches, toys, RC remotes, etc.

        • "VARTA High Energy (not the Longlifes) are German-made and run about 6x as long as normal batteries." no they don't "VARTA Longlife is the most long-lasting in VARTA's battery range" http://www.varta-consumer.com/en/products/batteries/overview…

    OP - Varta HIGH ENERGY Industrial AA size - BULK BOX OF 24 $13.20 + $11.00 Shipping = $24.20

Bunnings - Varta AA Longlife Alkaline Batteries - 30 Pack $9.92 Instore

I am going to need some convincing why yours are better.

Also - these seem to be your regular prices, so whats the bargain?

    • According to this site. They have similar capacity & performance (the long life version is actually slightly higjer)
      https://whatcell.org/2018/02/25/varta-high-energy-or-varta-l…

So I'm guessing the difference is just marketing.

      • Thank you for sharing this information.

The VARTA official website itself states that the High Energy provides for devices with high energy consumption such as toys, flashlight, and computer equipment, while the VARTA Longlife provides a constant energy flow for devices with low energy consumption such as wall clocks or radios.

        Source: http://www.vartaconsumer.com.au/en-au/products/batteries/ove…

    • Thank you for your question.

The VARTA High Energy is comparably better at providing energy for high consumption devices, and is thus better for industrial applications, while the VARTA Longlife is better for devices that require less energy consumption. Therefore, there is a price difference present.

The bargain, in this case, is that the more bulk boxes you buy, the cheaper the price will get. For example, if buying 6 boxes of VARTA High Energy Industrial AA 24pk, you will receive a 10% discount, bringing the price down to $11.88 for each box. If you decide to bulk up and get 24 boxes of VARTA High Energy then it brings the price down to $10.56 with a 20% discount.

Bunnings + Snag still cheaper than OP

All - please remember to recycle your batteries when you're done with them, too. Battery World, Aldi, and most Officeworks have drop-off points. If you don't have one of these nearby then check with your local council.

  • Procell/Duracell AA 1.5V box of 24

    OP - $22.22 + $11.00 shipping = $33.22
    https://batteryspecialists.com.au/procell-duracell-aa-1-5v-b…

    Ebay - $18.00 Delivered
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Duracell-PC1500-Procell-AA-Batte…

  • Negging because it is common knowledge the Varta batteries are cheaper at Bunnings.

    • The Varta High Energy are not cheaper at Bunnings. They are differen't products and you aren't comparing apples with apples. Might want to remove the Neg if that is your basis. That's the whole reason bunnings do exclusive packs, so that when you do find a cheaper product they don't have to beat it because it is never the same as the one they stock. Sometimes similar but with a different code. I know of another brand Narva that did a deal for cable ties in a bulk pack. The price the wanted Narva said they couldn't do that price and maintain the Narva quality. So narva brought in a cheaper grade, branded it Narva and sold it through as an exclusive product but it is not the same thing (still good value though).

      • You are well aware the description said nothing about High Energy until 5 minutes before your comment.

        • I wasn't aware, thank you for clarifying.
