Thanks mate! Perfect timing.
Was just gonna drive over to Costco now to get some but prefer Philips.
No problem!
do these bulbs work with any fittings? I brought some mirabella ones awhile again and they use to flicker on and off and I assume i needed a transformer.
Were you using a dimmer switch, cause this would cause flickering
not that i know of, I don't have any dimming knob switches, just on off switches in my house.
transformer incompatible
old choke type meant for halogen causes flickers on led
Not true. Depends on which transformer - I've retrofitted mine with these MR16 LEDs, and they work fine (no dimmer). It's really hit-and-miss, trial and error.
hence transformer incompatible if led flickers
thanks guys, it'll be an expensive trail and error test which i cant afford to take at the moment :/
@phunkydude:
Oh, I get what you mean now. You're right. Haha!
@iamjase:
Don't see why you wouldn't be able to return if incompatible.
@dangerdanger:
would it be easy to? some stores easier than others? like costco?
won't be easy , as this is not boxed packaging but cardboard sealed
Would the MR16 be 12V?
In short my existing ones are regular halogen lamps running on 220 v, can I simply replace them without any converters?
I think mr16 are usually 12V.
The GU10 are usually mains (240V). Happy to be corrected
I have not tried this particular model, but the MASTER version of LED - does not cause me any problems in switching from halogen to led. Hope it helps.
Thanks for this OP bought the lot of MR16. i thought the sockets were wrecked as i have eight or so but sometimes some of them go out, and then others work other times.
Is that cos the old halogen ones are a different voltage or something :/
My old halogen down lights ran hot ++ and the MR16 prongs were sometimes charred black! It would make new halogen mr16 prongs erratic in making contact when replacing the halogen bulbs.
When I replaced them with these led mr16 bulbs, they don't run as hot. No problems anymore with charred prongs.
Maybe someone can also advise if my transformers don't have to work so hard either (5W instead of 50W). Maybe this will prolong the life of my transformers too.
Thanks for this Mate much appreciated. Maybe I have same issue. I bought few Osram 5V MR16 before and they are 12V. The old hot running halogens were 50W and 12V too
Had to dick around but eventuslly got all of them to come on, the lights don't flicker but some of the new ones wouldn't come on altogether. Must have been charred or frayed connection as you said.
Two left now but have to do screwdriver and hammer trick to get the enclosure to turn to the left, so I can get in there..
