Looks like they've just launched in Australia but not much info about it yet. Currently supported cinemas are severely lacking in all major cities at the moment, no idea if that's just because they haven't added more yet. Does anyone have any more info?

Edit: I bit the bullet and signed up. I'm hoping that it would be easy to cancel if they don't add more cinemas given that their whole motto is "Any cinema, any time".

Edit 2: There are a lot more participating cinemas in the app compared to those on the site. Almost all the major ones from what I can see, more info in the comments.

Edit 3: Make sure you enter the coupon to see the pricing. The website does not always automatically apply it, sometimes the correct pricing isn't even displayed. Try again later if it's not. If (high) pricing exists for multiple days, mark expired.

22/6 Mod note: See this comment. Warning that users are being told to pay a $4.99 - $9.99 fee to be able to use the service immediately (despite the annual fee having been already paid).

31/7: Activation fee reported to be $10 in all cases.

  • It’s official, Sinemia is dead in the US, and probably soon in Australia: https://www.theverge.com/2019/4/26/18518359/sinemia-shuts-do….

How do I get a refund?

    • You can't, well not from Sinemia anyway. Credit card chargeback through your bank is the only way….

  • Sinemia just filed for bankruptcy in the US…Surely that means the rest of us are done for good now? (just in case there was a glimmer of hope before).

  • I was discussing Sinemia with mates a few days ago and wondering how they made money. Their offerings seemed too good to be true. I guess we now know how it ends!

  • I saw that a few people had successfully done chargebacks from their banks. Did they all get their money back?

I contacted Westpac and chargebacks need to be done within 90 days so no luck for me. Not overly worried as I missed out on 2 months of movies and more than got my money's worth.
Paid $123 last May, seen 19 movies with 10 in Vmax.

ING approved my chargeback pro-rata for the remaining 3 months on my subscription.

  • Did it work for anyone?

    • Whilst they only officially shut down their US operations, I don't think the service still works anywhere anymore.

They haven't tweeted or responded to reviews since they shut down in the US.

They were sending out literally hundreds of tweets daily but stopped abruptly on April 26th: https://mobile.twitter.com/SinemiaSupport/with_replies

I don't think there's any chance we'll be able to buy more tickets, if anyone is still on an annual plan I'd recommend they cancel their sub so it doesn't automatically resubscribe and do a chargeback to get their money back.

Yeah already did it. But its still working till the membership period ends. Try canceling your membership it will ask you 20 times, "are you sure?" then it threatens you with, "you won't be able to resubscribe for 1 year if you cancel". I could help but roll my eyes, "will you be in business in 12 months? I don't think so!".

        • I can't log in anymore so membership stops soon after your cancellation is processed.
