Furniture Price in Sydney and Melbourne

I am in Melbourne and I am looking for furniture for my home. I really liked Marilyn couch in "Furniture Galore" which is for $2600 in Melbourne but same is available for less than $2000 in "John Cootes Furniture" in Sydney.

I would like to know why there is so much price difference for same item in Melbourne and Sydney and also, will it be a nice idea to buy it from Sydney and get it shipped to Melbourne. How much it would cost me .

Melbourne: Furniture Galore

Sydney: John Cootes Furniture

Thanks in advance for your advice.

why there is so much price difference for same item in Melbourne and Sydney

There's a Hipster tax for Melbourne. It's like the Australia tax.

My advice is that is an awful looking couch.

    • Feels like you’ve walked into the future, or at least an uber-stylish present, every time you walk through the door.

This just in, different stores sometimes have different prices for the same item, irrelevant of the state the store is located in.

Have a look at the reviews of that Sydney store before you consider anything.
Also have you had a chance to physically go and view Marilyn. I think you would have a hard job selling it second hand if you ever needed to. I dont reckon there would be too many people who share the same taste.

Someone looking for inflatable dinghy parts would buy it, no problem.

    • Could you tell me which suburbs the stores are in?

You can always try to pricematch. I have a feeling they'll be more than happy to clear one out of the warehouse.

  • Is that a prop from Star Trek the Next Generation?

Essentially, I have found that all these companies are just resellers of bulk-volume boxed products sent from China. The exact same products are available at many stores, shops, eBay outlets, Gumtree etc. They all buy them in bulk for cheap and resell for whatever price they want or can. It's not necessarily to do with Sydney/Melbourne location but different sellers with different prices. The cheap TV stand box I ordered was marked as box 72 of 250-something for that supplier.

    • Gumtree is best for high end wood for low end $. Just gotta clean out the blood

Please post a picture of your living room with these couches in it after you get them.
