We'll be visiting a friend in Tampere Finland for a few days in early December and then have five days to travel.
What places do you suggest are "must visit" with young kids (7 & 9) in Finland?
Thanks in advance

Helsinki is boring, I wouldn't. It's just another european city. Go north, it's much more interesting
Helsinki is not 'just another European city' - it has wonderful neoclassical and art nouveau architecture. Although I agree this is probably no interest to 7 and 9 year old kids.
Early December is not the time to visit Helsinki or Finland in general. It will be extremely cold and the daylight hours are very short. You can visit Santa in Rovaniemi but it is extremely cold (daytime temps between -10C and -20C), dark most of the time and very very expensive.
Yeah, but it's the only time I can take leave. Have been picking up some bargains from Kathmandu that hopefully can keep us warm

IMO it's the perfect time to visit Finland. Finland's a wonderful country and has plenty to do in the daylight hours and plenty to do at night too. Bars and eateries everywhere open late, aurora hunting late at night, night snowmobiles or huskies, it's great.
Personally too I love the cold weather, I really enjoyed it.
Lapland.

Head up to Rovaniemi, you can spend a long time there in the winter seeing some awesome stuff.
Go really far noth to Saariselka and Ivalo, Go to Ranua Zoo and see polar bears,
Finland is a wonderful place.
The Winter circus should appeal to the whole family

If you can travel, go north to Rovaniemi - the home of Santa Claus.
For other attractions - do research before you go. Many sights/places in Scandinavia open only April-October.
Nice try CIA Stooge , Finland doesn’t exist!

Trust no one
(Or if you’re not CIA enjoy your unwitting Total Recall experience)
Heard that the blue lagoon hot springs are amazing
It's in Iceland. It's amazing for the first few hours then it just feels like any other hot pool.
Helsinki is ok but I’d recommend getting the ferry across to Tallinn, Estonia.
OH GOD don't go there, I heard it's a socialist nightmare! Everyone's happy because everything works and the prices are low without corporations literally screwing everyone aka the US model that Australia follows.
Porvoo is a nice day trip out of Helsinki,
Although i haven't been in the times i've been to Helsinki, the medieval fort might be worth a gander? https://www.suomenlinna.fi/en/
but if you are going in the winter, head north to Lapland and Santa's village
Can recommend Suomenlinna.
I'd try to see the Northern lights.
Pony Trekking or camping is good.
As is watching TV.
Waiting for recognition…..
It's quite a long way from Cairo.
So far the plan is
Helsinki 3 days
Tampere 2 days (must)
Rovaniemi/Lapland 2 days.
Is this suitable?
Sure thing! I kinda did the same trip last year - had heaps of fun. Though the more days up north the better in my opinion
Helsinki I suppose? Or the many (frozen?) lakes around Tampere. Ask your friend?
