Best Midsize Chinese Dirtbike under $2,000?

Need a dirtbike for the 12 & 14yo to bang around the property. Not sure what to get but $2k is absolute max spend, don't want second hand Japan, been there and I'm not mechanical so would prefer something new that lasts a bit longer before breaking out the youtube instruction videos (que debate).

The kids are on the small stature side and from what I can tell the 'Crossfire CF140L' is plenty big enough. Which is the bike I'm considering at $1500, but I'm clueless and really appreciate some advice before I spend.. http://crossfiremotorcycles.com/product/cf140l/

You'd have less trouble with 2nd hand Japan than new Chinese. Thats certainly been my experience with Atomik's anyway. CRF150F might sneak into your budget….

    • Cheers mate I respect that. Got burnt before and not knowing what to look for in 2nd hand I'm the guy that is just better off buying new.

Not sure where you live, but if you happen to be in the Sydney area there's a guy in Penrith (http://www.gasmanbikes.com.au/). He'll give you the lowdown and sort you out with a new Chinese bike. He's a stright shooter and kmows Chinese back to front.
        Good luck….

  • You will nearly always be able to buy parts for a Japanese dirt bike. Before choosing a Chinese bike enquire about parts availability.

There are some great barely used jap dirt bikes out there. Kids lost interest etc. If the parents have no idea about bikes then it is unlikely the teen rider has performed regular oil changes which is most important.

In my experience ex team race bikes can be a great buy. These bike can be so over maintained it is ridiculous. Privateer race bikes can be very hit and miss.
