  • Great price. However be aware that the screen is pretty dim :(

    • Price is very good agreed. Sorry to disagree, but the screen is blinding! I've got one. I use it on the lowest setting possible all the time. Outdoors you need to crank it up, but its perfectly viewable. Its an LED screen, and you have the option of turning on or off the ambient light sensor.

The laptop is super solid - rivalling a thinkpad. It is a proper business laptop. Its very quick with the SSD, and built in 3G WWAN is brilliant.

This for around the price of a netbook is unbeatable. I run photoshop on it - and it boots into win7 within 30 secs.

Its roughly about 1.5kg with the 6 cell batt, which I get about 4hrs out of.

These things used to retail for around $3500.

Only question is about warranty - is it through HP australia, or is it a grey import / refurbished etc? The reason why I ask is Graysonline sell these refusbished / exdemo all the time…. Though the 9289 general T&C seem to indicate it should be new

      • This would have been a certain buy if I didn't get the Dell E4300 from the HT clearance recently. With the 6 cell, I get 7 hours browsing with wifi and that's with the slightly higher voltage CPU (SP9400). Are you doing more intensive stuff?

        • The wireless networks seem a little power hungry - esp the 3G. With mine at idle, wifi on it consumes nearly 11W. With it turned off its closer to 6 hrs.

"This for around the price of a netbook is unbeatable"

Can't knock your enthusiasm for the product, but I think comparing a $800 laptop to a $200-300 netbook is stretching things just a tad :-D

This deal is 3 to 4 times the price of a netbook, but I agree if it was around the same price then it WOULD be unbeatable!

        • Whilst there are $300 netbooks, there are also $600 ones (I certainly wouldn't buy one). And yes I am very enthusiastic ;-) There are also many people who have bought netbooks, only to be disappointed with their performance, and would be willing to spend an extra $500 - if they had known that you could get such good quality for less than a thousand.

Also consider that you'd get more than double the performance, has twice the RAM, built in 3G, DVD burner, Expresscard etc etc…ok I'm getting carried away.

Moot point cause its sold out anyway.

        • man you remind me of a time when we spend 630$ on a 10" atom…. the pain will never ease

    • "When we watched a DVD of Anchorman using the integrated optical drive, the screen was exceptionally bright, and the speakers delivered surprisingly loud sound. Thanks to the matte finish, we were able to enjoy a wide variety of viewing angles; we could still comfortably watch the movie when we tilted the lid far forward and when we turned the machine at a 90-degree angle. The 2530p’s screen should be fine for making presentations to one or two people."

    • Yeah dim screen is a case of RTFM.

All these Elitebooks (and the 3 previous generations) have ambient light sensors, and they really need to be turned off (via the fn key combo) and the brightness manually set, otherwise it doesn't go bright enough when left on auto.

The main question like others have said is warranty. This would come with 3 years global onsite warranty if you were buying one of the statice listed ones you are comparing with. So what warranty has it got?

oh wow 9289 returns, these guys got good customer service

  • Link doesn't work.

  • yeah the product is not on their site anymore… sold out? was a pretty great deal. Ty OP

  • Perfect size and price. Although my opinion the 12-14 inch may decrease in price in the near future, so it's getting it now or getting it in a few months.

  • sold out befor i could even vote for it! hmmm talk about limited stock

  • Bah, why didn't this come out before I bought my 2540p 160gb SSD lappy? lol

    • But the 2540p is in a different league again…so I wouldn't be too upset :-)

  • Excellent price but 12.1 inch is a bit too small for everyday use imho.

  • It's either ssd or hdd, not ssd hdd.
