Do you have one or what are your opinions about it?

yep,
we're on 100% tank water though
Tank water too here, we have several filters. Fridge, tap and counter top.
we put a 4 stage straight off the tank so washing machine & hot water etc are filtered.
was $700 from ebay.
4 stages
washable particle (I have two, swap them over every month and give it a hose off).
non washable particle
non washable carbon
UV
when we moved in all they had was a single cartridge under the kitchen sink, they even had the dishwasher using unfiltered water (which was easy to redirect after the existing filter).
Hi Nugs, that's what we are looking at next. Do you have a link to the one you got? Sounds exactly like what we are after. Thanks!
We have one connected to the tap, but only for making coffee… Espresso machines don't like the extra stuff in the water. Otherwise our tap water is perfectly fine.
Depends on area.
My office runs filters for medical equipment. Between the offices, some have filters that will go on for 12+ months, some barely last 3. The equipment actually gives me a quantitative analysis of the water.
I change the filters myself and I can see how clogged with crap it can get (or perfectly clean).
If I lived near the place where I have to constantly change the filter, I wouldn't care much for drinking directly from the mains.
No, don't have one at home (Victoria). The mains water tastes fine and there doesn't seem to be any problems with it.
Having said that, I usually use previously boiled water (left in the kettle) for the espresso machine and the iron.
Nope, never had an issue with tap water in Perth.
Stage 1 filter installed on my house, filter gets pretty brown after a year so it's doing something at least
Couldn't live without my water filter <3 <3 <3 - replacement ceramic filters available at Bunnings
http://www.southerncrosspottery.com.au/
Do you use the SCP Fluoride filter?
I use https://www.bunnings.com.au/stefani-ceramic-replacement-wate…
I am not sure of the difference btw that and the SCP Fluoride filter. I am keen to filter out all of the s@!t that I can though :/
Thank you you've just made my search easier!
I ditto the question below from @leiiv
Do you use the fluoride filter?
I didn't think that fluoride could be filtered out. Perhaps this is a new thing (or I just haven't researched it lately).
Btw, my 1st choice would be to have a tank to collect rainwater..sadly, I'm unable to where I'm living
Reverse osmosis water filters filter out all that crap. Regardless of how amazing dentists and toothpaste brands make fluoride out to be, it’s an industrial chemical byproduct, yellows teeth, calcifies the pineal gland (essentially destroying the human centre of creativity and ability to think for one’s self), and on top of all that Hitler dumped it in the German water supply to dumb people down… /rant on fluoride over.
Reverse osmosis sounds like a winner.
What is the basic setup cost for a reliable unit?
Any recommendations?
@MishyMoo
Yes, you can filter out fluoride in the water.
Two ways
Reverse Osmosis
Or
Activated Alumina
People prefer RO as the running cost is cheaper. Also, the idea of using activated alumina throws some people off :)
That what I understand as well. But this guy here claims that the filter can remove fluoride without reverse osmosis nor alumina:
http://www.southerncrosspottery.com.au/replacement-filters-t…
How do we know if it is a false claim or not? Is there an easy way to test fluoride concentration at home?
No. You wouldn't filter any of that stuff out of your food (or non-water drinks), so why bother? They already filter it at the treatment plant. Human body is very resilient anyway.
It's just marketing hype to create a perceived "need" for something so the filter companies can reap profits from their victims. A bit like how we "need" the automatic soap dispensers when the same germs are on the tap and door handle anyway, plus they're on your phone/watch/handbag/wallet etcetera… https://youtu.be/rF9pEh9i-UY
we had a 5 stage reverse osmosis that was installed in the house when we moved in, The cost of replacing all the filters was ridiculous, we got rid of it.
No, just boiling the water is fine or drinking straight from the tap.
I just have a Brita jug filter. Its not for health reasons, but for taste.
Same here, only problem is constantly filling it up, thinking of getting a Neverfail water cooler with delivered pre-filtered 15L jugs, had one when I was a kid and it was extremely convenient.
Putting weird things through a water filter…
We have evapure … was installed when we had the house built, cant complain.
Got one for the fridge. I personally like it over boiled water, but maybe cause it's chilled.
