Cheapest Option to Travel to Delhi

I have been thinking of traveling to India for quite some time now. Always wanted to know what it might be like. Anyways i found that one can travel from Sydney - Bangkok and then to Delhi for about $1400 or from sydney-Singapore-Delhi about $1500 . Cheapest i have found is Sydney-Perth - Delhi $1080..Any other cheaper options…

I don't want too long a stay and don't want too many breaks in the journey. Any good travel agent would be nice too.

Please suggest.

  • Would suggest any of the Indian specialist travel agents. They usually have a better knowledge of fares and availability. Also depends on when you want to travel - Until 31 Jan is peak season on most airlines to India.

www.bestandlesstravel.com.au - Will give you the best pricing, but their service can be underwhelming (although, to be fair, it has been over 4 years since I used them)
There are several others - Ram World Travel, Des Space, Air Travel Express…

Also, if you're up for some pain, Tiger may be a cheap option.

  • thanks will try them out. I will be travelling in the 2nd week of feb.

    • Quite a good time to travel. Just avoid the last week of January as Delhi will be on high security alert leading up to the 26th. It will still be somewhat cold at nights during Feb, but days will be quite pleasant. Typically temps between 8 and 20 degrees.

  • Managed to get flights from Mel - Delhi return for approx $250 AUD with Air Asia during one of their sales (not including baggage and food).

As gsri9 mentioned try Air Asia and Tiger Airways as they have connections into India. You'll obviously have to fly to Melbourne or Gold Coast to catch the Air Asia flights so factor that into your cost.

As for full service airlines, cheapest I could find was Malaysian Airlines for approx $1240 AUD from Sydney to Delhi. Have flow with them to India as well and they are OK. Found a Singapore flight for about $1330 if you were keen to go down that route.

    • HI where did u find that singapore airline fare for 1330.

      • Actually found it on bestlfights but if you go directly to the singaporeair.com webiste it can be had for $1311.44

Dates I used were 7th of Feb to 22nd of Feb ( I just made them up) as you didn't specify the exact dates you wanted to depart and arrive.

Let me know if you need any more info.

        • I found $1270 as the lowest from bestandless travels for singapore airlines.

        • What dates are you using and I'll see if I can find anything cheaper?

        • I am using 4th Feb outbound return 14th Feb. Dates are flexible but not too much. Only want to travel for about 10 days.

        • Found an Emirates flight for $1245 including taxes if you're interested.

          Syd -> BKK -> DEL

About a 5 hour layover in BKK on the way there but only 1hr 20 mins on the way back which is pretty good. BKK airport is not too bad either.

        • Thanks for trying Ndiddy but i don't think the savings is worth it. Would love to get a deal for around $1100 maybe but i know i am being cheap. Nothing wrong in trying.

        • Nw mate - even with Air Asia you're looking @ at least $1100 from inc taxes, baggage and food + the return SYD - MEL flight and for that price you might as well fly Singapore.

I frequent India a bit so will post back here if anything comes up in the next day or so.

        • So far cheapest i found was $1268 from http://valueworldtravel.com.au/

        • What dates did you use? I only found it for $1319!!

        • 4th feb departure 14th feb arrival

  • Tiger airways doesn't work for me. Sydney to perth - singapore - chennai.. Too many stops.

Air asia - works about to be about $650 compared to flightcenters $688 offer right now.
    http://www.flightcentre.com.au/product/1032516

According to this flight centers deal i can grab a

    sydney-brisbane-delhi flight for around $1048

or sydney-perth-delhi for around $1044. The reason why i can't take their sydney - delhi flight direct is bcos those prices only apply after 1st March

  • wat a waste…why do flightcenter advertise something they have no idea about. m****

Just called to enquire about the perth-delhi flight on their website for $680 and was told the flight is with air asia. Goes to kuala lumpur then to delhi. Had not clue what the rep was talking about. Tried to sell me a more expensive flight. Then told me to book directly with air asia as we don't deal directly with them.

    pfffffff.

  • UPDATE: I contacted an agent direct in india who was able to offer me tickets to delhi for $1120 AUD malaysian airlines. A friend referred me.

  • Can you share the details. I am also thinking for a trip with family in march for 1.5 or 2 months.

  • Hi gagans. This is their website. http://www.uniglobeshergilltravel.com/site/viewhome.asp?sit=…

Don't try their online booking form as the prices are just ridiculous. Give them a call yourself. But beware the minute they hint a foreign accent you will be ripped off.

I have 2 indian blokes i know from that area cos they do some web dev work for me and i asked them to do this for me.
