  • Why this over whatsapp?

    • The two guys who started WhatsApp have both left and some say it is because Facebook is compromising the security implemented within it for profit.

      • so they rebooted their business from this one ?

        • AFAIK jabber and xmpp are just protocols like http for web browsing or sip for VoIP. You could probably build your own server for you and friends if you are super keen or just subscribe for an account on a hosted server (of course you would need to trust them).

WhatsApp is probably fine for all but the most stringent security requirements unless you want near total anonymity.

Most people who want total anonymity aren't thinking about who's doing what with their data now, it's more about worst case scenario in 5-30 years from now in the Darwinian future will you be discriminated against or profiled because of what you do on the net today.

Same reasoning as people who pirate with VPNs no one is being prosecuted today but in 5-10 years time they can still pin things on you because of stored metadata.

  • Thanks OP.
