It is actually soybean, eaten in it's immature stage.

The Japanese name, edamame, is used commonly to refer to the dish. It literally means, "stem bean" (枝 eda = "branch" or "stem" + 豆 mame = "bean"), because the beans were often sold while still attached to the stem.

      • You really know your beans.

    • Same same, jv! These are great.

Are these product of China? I've seen many that are packaged with Japanese characters but are actually from China.

Yes they are a Japanese company located in China. If you prefer edamame from Japan we can order for you, but the price would be $7 for the same amount unfortunately….

      • Thanks, yeah I would expect the ones from Japan to be much dearer. Great to know that you can get them though.

Same question as Moocher - I assume these are product of China? I would love to find some cheap product of Japan edamames.

Edit - actually I recognise the packaging, they are indeed from China.

    • Clayton's Choice: opt for (possible) radioactive contamination or opt for (probable) organic contamination….
