Staying in Short Stay Hotels Singapore Airport

Hey everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with the short stay Hotels within Singapore Airport.

I have a flight to Singapore on a Virgin Airline and then a Connecting flight 8 hours later on a Emirates airline to Dubai.

The issue being if Virgin take my bag, they are going to send it to Singapore and I cannot go through immigration and collect my bag if I want to access these short stay hotels which are located before immigration

I'm assuming that because they are 2 different airlines I wont be able to have my bag sent through to Dubai (i.e. Virgin give the bag to Emirates who get it on my Dubai plane)

I spoke with Emirates and their suggestion was that when I land in Singapore, I just don't collect my bag and they put it in the lost and found and I just collect it later………not keen on that

Has anyone had any experience with this? Or is it just not possible.

Thanks!

  • Crowne Changi is at T3 which is outside the immigration checkpoint so you'll be able to collect your bag and check in to the hotel.

The short stay ones that charge per 6 hour slots are inside the immigration checkpoint so you'll have to pick up your luggage at the lost and found later. I've done this before and although it's unnerving, Changi is one of the best airports in the world so more likely than not it'll be OK.

Don't worry too much about the bags.

Soon as you get off the flight at Singapore, go to a transfer counter (within the airport). Show them your Emirates booking and your baggage tags (from Virgin (SQ)). They will then issue you a Emirates boarding pass and have someone to collect your bags from the baggage claim and then check it into your next Emirates flight.

In the mean time, book yourself a few hours at one of the transit hotels in Singapore and have a rest!

    Hope this helps

    • This is excellent advice.

      • That is awful advice. You are advised to book well in advance. Don't expect to walk up to a transit hotel on the day and expect just to get in.

  • I think when you check into your flight with Virgin, you can simply tell them at that time the details about your connecting flight and they should be able to check your bags all the way to Dubai. The issue is normally that their system is unaware that you're not going to be staying in Singapore, if you've booked the flights separetely.

Alternatively, passing through immigration in Singapore is a breeze and you'd be able to collect your luggage very easily. If you pack lighter then you could just carry-on all the way too.

  • Your assumption that Singapore / Virgin don't interline with Emirates may be wrong. Responses vary on the internet with this, and some people have gotten it to work. Try and get them to check your bags through to Dubai from your departure point. If they can't, then you simply leave your bags in lost and found until you get them. That's really your only option if you want to stay in the airport.

My advice would be to go to the Crowne Changi as noone noted though.
