Best Way for Interstate House Moving? Include Furniture and Personal Items

One of my colleague is moving interstate due to relocation of work. My boss asks me to arrange. There are 3 bedrooms' volume of furniture. Any advice or recommendations for interstate movers? The cost is covered by company but my boss asks me to find the best solution. Pressure all on me.

Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

  • Just use any reputable mover if work is paying. They're all super expensive. One of the cheaper ones I've looked at in the past was Crown Relocations. I ended up using a guy off Airtasker in the end though. Way cheaper.

    • Thank you. I tried to ring Crown however they only offer container moving and it takes 5 days to arrive.

  • We did a (well two actually) international moves a few years back. We moved to America on an international Assignment for several years - Went there with not much more than a few suitcases - Went crazy buying furniture etc over there. (Cherry Bedroom Setting, Mahogany desk, Oak for much of the rest) - barely squeezed into a 40 ft container for our return. Unlike, say, Minimovers, who plan on a back to depot with the truck, an interstate move implies an empty return trip unless they can get a backload (less likely on short notice). So you are probably looking at a container move. Even now, a house move for us, is two runs of the Big (9M/T) Minimovers Trucks.

(When we came back from America, my wife put out a Thermos of Coffee for the movers - they packed it - it had gone cold by the time we unpacked. )

    • Thank you. I'd prefer a truck delivery rather than containers. Taking too long to arrive.

      • -1

It'll be a lot more expensive

      • I would try different movers - they should have ready and rapid access to containers.

  • I found these guys to be good: http://www.fragileremovals.com.au/ , cheaper than Kent (I've used both)

    • Thanks mate. Called them and they don't do anything from Sydney tho.

  • I used Wridgways when I moved from Melbourne to Perth a few years ago. I think I paid about $800 for 25 large boxes, a fridge, a bike and a TV.

Ask about backloading, it is not the quickest method but it saves you a lot of money because your items share the truck with others rather than having a truck to yourself.

  • I've used Backloads to move from Mel > Bris and back again a few years later. Also referred a few friends and never had any complaints. They consolidate multiple customers items into the one container before trucking it interstate so it's good if there's not a full truck's worth of stuff.
