Has Anyone Purchased a Bed from ALDI before?

I’m looking at getting a bed from Aldi tomorrow specifically this one

Has anyone got any reviews on it? Is it likely to sell out quickly? How does buying bulky items at Aldi work?

Why would you buy something that you will spend so much of your life on from a place like Aldi?

    • +1

because you can also purchase food from aldi. food is generally required for life…

Way to really take what I said the wrong way…don't be a muppet

what i was trying to say that aldi can sell good products.
why buy ski gear at aldi? etc.

          @dasher86:

There is a great YouTube video out there on why to not buy motorcycle gear from Aldi. It’s from the UK, but the same stuff we get here and a guy tests the Aldi motorcycle gear against known brands and it isn’t all positive…

While I agree that Aldi have some great deals and some good products, some things that they sell are just not worth the savings (ie: safety, comfort or longevity.)

        • @pegaxs:
          Totally agree.
That is why I said Aldi can sell good products.

@dasher86: If you're smart and care about your health and safety, you would NOT buy ski gear at aldi. Just like I don't buy their cycling gear and or any other niche stuff they might periodically sell. A bargain is not worth risking your health over. Just like in this case with a bed.

@dumbmillenial: their ski gear is good - have you ever actually tried it? I don't see how clothing could cause safety concerns, are you worried it won't quite be warm enough and you'll get frostbite? Lol

    • I have a pretty good mattress. I like the design of this bed, and comparable designs elsewhere seem way more expensive. Are you saying the quality of Aldi furniture is worse than say, ikea? Where would you buy a bed that was high quality? We were going to buy two (one for the spare room) and this did seem like a decent deal.

      • The Koala equivalent is a good choice, and Ikea sell decent ones too. I'm increasingly convinced that nothing Aldi sells is good or even tested properly, they just kindly allow you to queue up at the register to request a refund within 60 days. As long as you kept their flimsy receipt.

We bought some Aldi dining chairs for an office last year but only assembled them months later. Flimsy, rickety trash and the instructions mislabeled the screws so the instructions were plain wrong. That would never happen at Ikea.

Koala will deliver to you (mattresses are VERY heavy)and if you really don't like it they'll pick it up too within 100 or so days.

        • Ikea isn't as good as it used to be either. We had a rickety cabinet that needed more bracing and still wobbles a bit

        • May I suggest that anyone buying flat-pack/self-assembly furniture should spend a few extra dollars for something like this:
Parfix adhesive - basically Liquid Nails
Made in the same factory as the Selleys product. Smells and looks the same to me, can't comment on taste.

I've strengthened many such items during assembly. I also repaired an internal door whose veneer had bowed away from a corner and was out ~15cm at the apex. That was in 2011 and it's still holding perfectly.

  • I purchased a chest of drawers from Aldi once and it was out for hard rubbish collection two weeks later. If you are buying the bed for a rarely used guest room it might be ok but I would not purchase it as your main workbench.

    • hehe, workbench

I like the implications of being on the job

  • I’ve purchased that exact bed for my four year old daughter 6 months ago.

It’s going ok. We occasionally kick our toes on the middle frame leg which is slightly annoying. I’m not used to a bed leg there as I tuck her in. I’ve sat on the bed as an adult and it’s moderately sturdy but when moving the bed I’ve noticed you’ve got to take care given it has a “join” in the middle. But it works as intended so I’ve got no complaints.

The bed came in a large box I put in a trolley in store. The base frame is two pieces you join together. A bit of setup but not too bad

    • I can't speak for Aldi's bed quality but when I bought cheaper frames from Fantastic Furniture where the bed had a middle support the older kids ended up breaking the beds in a few months.

I'd be wary on buying a similar design if anyone wants it for someone bigger because chances are they'll do the same thing eventually.

  • A few years ago, we purchased a queen size mattress which has been great. We also purchased a single mattress which was a little short for my daughter's bed but I'm uncertain if this was the mattress or the bed.

I found the notion of a compressed mattress in a small box a little troublesome but they expand. I recommend allowing a few days for this to occur.

You probably have a king single bed and bought a regular single mattress.

If your any decent size those slats are shit.

First one was missing a price, returned for another second one slats fell out over and over… I bought a bed off gumtree for the same price with 2x4 slats, never looked back.

    • I had a similar bed from eBay and the wooden slats fell out of the plastic brackets constantly. It made me appreciate the mere possibility of "hopping" into bed.

I ended up screwing the slats in before eventually discarding that demon.

  • Dont know if your mentioning a mattress or the bed frame. I bought a similar bed frame off ebay 2 years ago for about 150-160 king size. I've broken the slats on my side, its basically disposable. Hasn't effected the way I sleep.

  • We bought that bed last year and it broke after 6 months! Would not recommend!

  • A relative of mine purchased one to replace his cardboard box bed

He found this "real" aldi bed worse than his old one… The bedhead is pretty though :)

    • Milk creates and malamine on top.

        Crates ,
unless you're making some kinda hybrid liquorice allsort

IKEA Trysil bedframe with Luroy slats for the same $229. It's pretty solid and recommended.

  • No but I've tried to bed someone in ALDI.

  • Yes we bought a set of bunks and they were crap. Didn’t last 6 months

  • Before parting money at Aldi, take a look at the Sleeping Duck website. Their mattresses are boxed too, but you get lots of options re softness/hardness and mattress toppings. And they get lots of good feedback. Like from me :-)

  • Let me sleep on that one

  • Good to see all these comments, I came close to buying bedframe and mattress, but my size/bulk decrees that I need something solid (but flexible). Seems like Aldi is not my solution.

  • Bit late, But here is our Video review of Aldi Bed in a box. It is doing it job. Good value for $200
