3 per customer… perfect for you and your peg-leg pirate mate

    • I have a middle leg, size 7.

can confirm - kills the deal imo

  • had my eye on those wingtip boots but they're not included in the PWYW offer :(

Many reports of poor workmanship for this brand on r/goodyearwelt

"as long as it's $80+" tends to contradict the offer of "pay what you want"…who in their right mind pays more than the floor price. Terrible idea for a promotion, they'd be much better offering tiered discounts 10% off x spend, 15% off y, and so on & so forth.

Lol "Pay What You Want" but 80 USD minimum. Very contradictory. Plus 60 USD shipping.

Not sure how this is a deal.

Where else can you purchase two pairs of Goodyear welted shoes for $260?

  • +3

Pay what you want as long as it's within what they want, which could be not what you want.

  • +1

Pay US$80 plus US$60 and another US$30 if you want to return.

    Seriously?

  • Is there an incentive to pay the highest amount? What is the logic behind this form of advertising?

    • Social Justice!

Not the best feedback on le reddit.
Literally the first 6 hits on r/goodyearwelt, 4 are complaints, though granted, 2 of those threads were part one and two, but 3/5 ain't a ringing endorsement and the remaining two were "ok for the price" reviews. The first google hit was this and it seems that they're as labelled on the box (i.e. welted leather shoes) but the lether is meh and the soles are meh. Also, all the joys of online ordering for sizing! Yay. Sorry, but it's a pass for me. If I'm going to roll the dice on online ordering, may as well go Meermin et al.

  • RRP is probably $80

    • More like $300 RRP for Goodyear welted dress shoes.

      • RRP is a made up number that manufacturers set that they think they can get away with, usually above their costs (though there are times when this is not the case, I doubt that this is one of those times). Given the new hipster fascination with welted shoes, the cost of production has gone significantly down as companies take their manufacturing east. I would be very surprised if Thursday Boots weren't still making a small profit at $80USD a pair of welted shoes. If you think there's a massive cost difference (i.e. $205 difference you just suggested) between the leather liner and soles found on Thursday boots c.f. those Rivers ones then you are as crazy as the colourway on those above mentioned Rivers.
