  • OT, but….
    If anyone has one of these, can you tell me if it displays the clock on the front of the unit while in standby?
    I am replacing an old HDSTB in the bedroom that did, and finding a replacement that does the same sems to be difficult.

      Why don't you get a clock or something?

      • Why don't you answer his question or something?

        EDIT: On another note; I recommend OLIN as a good, cheap set-top box manufacturer. Never had too many problems with the one I've got.

      • I did think of that already…
        Just another thing to have plugged in….
        But apart from that, as the time comes from the TV stations, it is always set without having to have battery backup etc, and as it is in the bedroom near the TV, it makes a nice night clock.

    • I had the opposite problem - too many devices with clocks that can't be disabled.

  • Can I use it for SD TVs?

    • Video Output: CVBS
      (This is the standard Yellow video output plug, so no reason why not).

    • 100% yes.

  • Dickies has a similar model for $60 (though it's currently on backorder) http://dicksmith.com.au/product/GH5930/dick-smith-high-defin…

    .
    Comparison - ** Olin HVBTR4800 v Strong SRT5428 - HD+SD usb Record STB's **
    ~~
    .
    . The following was just intended as notes to myself. Contradiction welcome.
    .

    User Manual:
    * Olin = Colour Graphics OK - Text Information. POOR
    * Strong = B&W Graphics OK - Text Information. GOOD

    FAST Forward & Reverse - usb:
    * Olin = Option unstated - apparently only x1. POOR
    * Strong = Speeds x2 x4 x8 x16 x32. ACCEPTABLE

    Bookmark - usb:
    * Option apparently N/A for both products.

    TimeShift - usb:
    * Olin = Single Press - with a 5 second delay before it starts.
    * Strong = Two Press - a delay is not specified (appart from additional Press).

    TimeSkip - usb (Both Products) POOR:
    * Option apparently N/A, either time, bookmark, or percentage.
    * Chapter Skip is only option available (DVD vob files etc) - Next and Previous.

    Portable HDD power concerns:
    * Olin = Limited onboard supply (some HDD's may require external Power).
    * Strong = Apparently load on the onboard supply is not a problem.

    USB Port on rear panel:
    * N/A Both Products.

    Storage System Format:
    * Either NTFS or FAT32 Both Products (see restriction for Upgrade to STB firmware)
    * It's been reported that Olin prefers FAT32, probably due to the Onboard Power issue.
    * NOTE - FAT32 has Maximum file size limit of 4GB.

    On Off (Reset) on rear panel:
    * YES Both Products.

    Digital Display on Standby:
    * Not specified - Both Products.

    3D Capable:
    * Olin = Not stated.
    * Strong = Full 3D Ready.

    Comparison:
    __ STRONG wins, hands down, but it's back up to $79 (at CP stores).
    __ Therefore a proper, full featured PVR, is looking a better option.
    __ However, given USB2 is in decline, we should not be to hasty.
