I've got one of these and it's cosy and warm - A quality Chinese plastic garment at that

      • Hey mate, Hows the fit in these? aka is a large a large? Alot of the kathmandu stuff for me runs one size too small like their large is more a medium?

        • +1

I'm a medium and I found their sizes true to size, if not slightly roomier

        • thanks their chart confirms

      • Maybe - but hardly what you'd want if you were stuck in the Rimatukas for a week in winter rain - you'd then want something woollen - even a fleece.

    • Kathmandu is from NZ bro

    • Waimairi Beach is a suburb of Christchurch, New Zealand. Sounds pretty nice name & it's appropriate as cold there a lot of the year.

The Maori word "waimairi" translates to "listless stream".
Many Aussie businesses appropriate our First Nations names for marketing purposes.

It is Chinese plastic & nylon, like many outdoor clothes. I bought Kathmandu pants made from recycled plastic bottles 2 decade ago & still are in occasional use in the cold.
Fleece is the generic name for this style of fabric or clothing, so appropriate.

And while Kathmandu originated in NZ, it was sold out to the land of the financiers long ago.

I haven't shopped Kathmandu for a long time as quality of construction was an.issie. Got tired of returning shoddy mmerchandise.

$10 to Click and Collect?? Yeah Nah!

    • hahahhaha, it's like apple

  • Hey, terrys bro. A bit touchy mate. Kathmandu is a Kiwi company, and the Capital of Nepal. You are reading too much into the description.

    • Kathmandu may have NZ origins, but is now like many Australian brands - long sold out.

    • I'm imagining some wannabe hipster twit grabbing one of these and heading bush [NZ] sometime this May in his "Fleece", rather than slumming it with a bogan Swandri. It presses the same triggers in me as twonks with "Desert Duellers" prepping their troopies for a trip through [Belair] National Park.
It also comes on a day when plastic detritus is reported from the deepest sections of the Great Australian Bight :-(. Do we really need crap like this when wool does so well…

I find it very frustrating shopping at Kath.

The Autumn Sale was still on last week. Epic Reductions Ends Sunday! So I thought, ok, on Sunday I bought a jumper that was $50, on the last day of the sale. You would expect when the sale ends, the price would go up, right? Nope. The next day, that same jumper is $40. I emailed Kath to ask if they have a price guarantee or can credit me the price difference.. they said no. This stuff happens.

I recommend any time you shop at Kath, pay by 28 deg or Coles MC with shopper's protection active. It's actually cost me hundreds of dollars of price reductions by using AMEX. I made 3 purchases with the $20 credits offer. But had I used 28D I would have gotten more money back from price protection than that measily $20.

Lesson learned: Never pay in cash. Always use a card with price protection. Their prices are extremely volatile and you're bound to lose out if you don't.

    • Return & buy at reduced price.

      • Part of it was paid by gift card. Not sure what happens with refunding.

I don't want to refund, wait for them to put it back on shelf (which they might not do right away) and then buy it back. It will look strange.

I can't buy it in advance either. It has to be the right colour and size combination, and not every store has it.

Also, they told me, whether they accept refunds is up to the store manager's discretion.

It made me not want to shop there again.

        • @Infidel:

Buyer protection usually costs you a percentage of each months payment. I've got 28degrees, but never had a reason to pay for it.

0.5%, capped at $50. That's nothing. And if you pay it before statement date, there's no charge.

Just buy, then return same item later with earlier receipt.

Stock levels are low for that size + colour. Stock checker is only updated once a day in the morning, and is vague (e.g. "low in stock"). When I originally bought it, I got the last one. And it's also bugged. It doesn't let you check, says must select colour and size, which I already did, but it still won't let me check now. Before it bugged out, Knox said "low in stock". Went there today, and nothing. Not going to bother trying other stores. Not for $10. Live and learn. Next time pay by 28D.

Gift card purchase must be paid back by gift card under consumer law.

Do they give you a new GC, or use the same one?

          @Infidel:

The item with the reduced price must be exactly the same as the item you bought, including size, colour, make and model number, attachments and accessories.
So if colour & size can't be supplied at time of claim at lower price - can't claim.

Yes, that's very easy to do. The price will be published online, which will have stock. As long as one store has it, it will be in stock.

Doing the refund route, means physically going to a store and finding one that has it in stock. It's much more likely to be in stock online than at the store you bought it from.

Anyway, I know you don't like the shopper's protection, but I find it invaluable. For a $100 spend, that's a 50 cents fee. But of course I always pay my statement early so I never pay a fee.

Just remember, their prices are very volatile. An item you bought on special could be discounted by $50 or more the following week, as has happened to me multiple times. I actually lost money by taking AMEX's $20 credits instead of paying by 28D.

A down vest went from $250 one week to $80 the next. The convenience of being able to claim the price reduction online and not have to argue with someone who may or may not acquiesce can't be understated.
