Moto G5 Plus XT1685 32GB 4G Dual Sim: Best Price Question

Need a new ph pronto and have a motoG4plus which is going strong but the camera takes cloudy pics is basically useless. I don't know why it went that way but I can't put up with only using the front cam for pics as I need to take pics in my day job on occasions.

So was just wondering if this is a good buy from E Global at $247.00 https://www.eglobaldigitalcameras.com.au/motorola-moto-g5-pl…
DWI has it for $279.00 as well. https://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/motorola-moto-g5-plus-x…

They seem like good prices. I've never dealt with the companies in question are they OK to deal with?

Thanks for any help that's forthcoming.

Buy a Nokia 3310 its on special at the moment @ Coles

  • @Godric A bit too retro for me.

Is the rear lens all scratched up? If so try polishing it first, could save buying a whole new phone.

  • @shanakatak It is a bit scuffed I guess but you can see that it's kind of fogged up inside.
Your right though, It's a shame to dump a perfectly good ph just for a new one with a camera but I don't seem to have a choice unfortunately.

I dont know whether sweat and heat caused it to go foggy(I work in construction) or a trip last year to Europe and the longhaul flight with it's different atmosphere.

It is possible to repair the camera module

      Video

Replacement camera link for $15.20 USD

You'll need some phone repair tools, they usually cost anywhere between $4~10 on eBay.

I also bought my Samsung tablet and Motorola G4 Plus from DWI as well, delivery speed could be faster but their ebay feedback seems reasonable.

  • The last time I tried such a thing it all ended in tears and the rubbish bin.

But I might try it after I get another ph as I need it to be working by next week.

Thanks heaps for going to the trouble to find those links though.

You might not get the replacement module by next week though, not unless you paid extra for faster shipping.

I also recall that the Motorola G4 plus also had an issue with the camera lens scratching up due to the special oleophobic coating on it being rubbed off over time. (the coating prevents fingerprint smudging)

There was DIY solution which invovled polishing the camera.

  • Wow! That is exactly what my camera looks like, exactly. I actually have several types of silver polish here for my audiophile equipment. I'll try it straight away and report back.

  • Stainless steel cleaner didn't work.

…but ceramic cooktop cleaner vigorously applied has done the job! It looks remarkably like the one in the Imgur link now.

Well well, that's $300 saved. Thank you very much for chasing the up.

    Ozbargain networking at it's best.

*All the crappy cloudy pics I took in Europe last year…damn.

      Problem solved then.

      • Yes, yes it is for the moment.

        Who knew!

Get a stick on lens protector for it. I did that for mine when I first bought it and no clouds for me :P

    • Can you get those? Never knew that or heard of them.

Do they cover the whole back of the phone or just the tiny camera?

      • +1

Mine covers the circle area of just the camera on the back. I bought it off Ebay. I've also got a wallet case for my phone, so the camera actually sits back a few mms and never comes into contact with any surfaces. The wallet case has saved my phone from a couple of drops I reckon.

        • Ah, I see.
I bought a kickarse tradies cover from amazon US when I first bought this ph and it keeps the lens away I guess and itcertainlt saves it from the drops this thing cops in my normal working day but it wouldn't /doesn't protectthe lens the way a wallet would, that's a really good point.
I used to have Samsung S4 mini with a wallet and it lasted more than two years before it was trashed through my work environment, longest life yet for one of my phones.

I'll look at a wallet for it.
          Thks for the heads up.
