    thanks for the bargain.

just a heads up to anyone considering mcafee.

    1. there are better-priced alternatives with better detection-rates available
    2. mcafee is reknown for causing problems on systems its installed on. The most common effect is system slow-down. Its firewall can cause difficulties also. While all AV solutions have some hit on performance, Mcafee is one of the more 'heavy' av solutions
    3. Like Norton, if using this software, and you want to remove it, the best practice is to use the specialised 'removal tool' which can be downloaded from the mcafee website. Remnants of the install can also cause issues.

As a computer tech, I see a lot of infected machines with this software, and generally recommend to my customers to investigate a preferable solution such as KIS or ESET.

Just my 5c worth. Saw this deal and just wanted to provide information for anyone considering using it. Its really not great software and there are significantly better products on the market. If you're prepared to pay for a product, there are better ways to spend your money than this, even at a discount.

    • I agree, there are also free solutions available, i like avast. avg slowed down my pc too much…

      Has hell frozen over?

From what I read of this review Norton seems to be currently the best paid AV app, with the least system performance impacts.

And Kaspersky is trailling behind Avast and Avira.

      • I haven't tried Norton for quite some time… due to the "never again" factor…

just seems to take over your PC and install 100 different things…

        another page…
        http://anti-virus-software-review.toptenreviews.com/v2/

just depends on what review you want to believe….

Norton must be paying the biggest kick backs…

      • I read a PC magazine this month and it listed Norton as the best buy!! I can't believe it!

  • With all the free alternatives I don't understand why people pay for antivirus. One thing to note is after the 6 months the application is a pain to uninstall.

    Free alternatives:
    Avast
    AVG
Windows Security Essentials (You need to own windows legitimately. Also I didn't check but it may only run with windows 7)
    Avira

    • Might want to take AVG and MSE off the list.

Avast and Avira ranks better on AV-comparatives and has better reviews.

Any half decent computer tech will advise you to stay away from Mccafee and Norton! ESET all the way!

    • Nortons seem to have become a bit better and not such a resource hog these days. But McCafee has always been shit IMO. If you have legit Windows then Windows Security Essentials is your best bet. Although these days it seems the really nasty ones will get around anything…

Personally though I dont download random shit off Limewire and in years of not using A/V I haven't had an issue.

  • Microsoft Security Essentials is free and works well. Other AV companies are complaining about it so it must be good.

  • F-Secure
    norton
    Avira
    Kaspersky

Were the 4 Advanced+ rank from av-comparatives for the Whole Dynamic results Dec 2010

It should be noted that while Norton AV has its strengths as a pure antivirus, its 360 security suite remains a wholly problematic product.
