What Fitness Tracking Devices Would You Recommend for AIA Vitality?

I recently signed up, after getting an RAC policy. I use Runkeeper to track my runs in general, and fortunately that syncs with AIA Vitality.

But I don't have anything to track my daily steps (or even my treadmill runs in winter). Are there any cheap but good devices that anyone would recommend? I'm looking for something basic that would track my steps, possibly my runs, and maybe my heart rate.

Ideally, it should sync easily and work well with AIA Vitality, for those weekly bonuses.

If you own an iPhone, it has the ability to track your steps. You could also purchase a heart rate band that is compatible with the iPhone as well so that it could do everything you are after.

I also own a Sunto watch which included a heart rate band that goes around your torso. It does a fairly good job at tracking heart rate and wasn't too expensive.

    • I have an Android phone. But even if I had an iPhone, the issue is that I don't know if any of these things would sync with AIA.

On their app and webpage I don't see anything about an iPhone, for example. For it to work, the data would somehow need to reach AIA, rather than staying on my phone.

Based on pictures from the app download screen - fit bit should be fine.

  • Apple health seems to work quite well at tracking steps and I primarily use my iPhone (secondary phone) for steps tracking. Otherwise you can go for fitbit or polar heart rate monitors which sync ok.

  • I use the anytime fitness benefits which syncs to the account and gets me 100 points per day mostly. Days i dont go to the gym, the iphone apple health works oretty well to get me up to 7,500 steps and syncs over fine.

  • Aren't you worried that AIA would have your health details and later decline your application for insurance?

    • Not really… If anything, I'd hope it'll help make me healthier. And if not, there are plenty of other insurers out there.

To be honest I am unsure why you came here for advice. If you want to use AIA Vitality to track your fitness then do like I did for you check their website. They would be the ones to know the answer to your question. https://lv.aiavitality.com.au/lv-aia-au/wellnesstools/fitnes…

Now if you want to get advice on which one to use that is supported by AIA then you should be asking that question. So here is my input about 2 devices which are supported

I have used Garmin and Fitbit. Both are equally as good, keeping in mind I do not subscribe to AIA.

The Garmin is best for battery longevity as you do not need to charge it for a year, and if it holds up that year you can purchase replacement batteries off of EBay and just replace the used ones. Also Garmin is waterproof so you never need to take it off unless you go diving. And all the Garmin's will track heart, steps and sleep plus other things. https://buy.garmin.com/en-AU/AU/sports-fitness/activity-trac…

The fitbit has been more useful for counting calories when you pair it with the fitbit website (you can do it with Garmin too but you have to find a supporting external website and it is not as obvious to see if you have under or over eaten). I do have to take mine off every few days to charge the battery then remember to put it back on before I do any steps or exercise. The Charge and Flex are mentioned in AIA. With Flex you cannot see your results on your arm through out the day but you can with the Charge. And with Charge it also keeps up with your heart rate. https://www.fitbit.com/au/charge2 https://www.fitbit.com/au/flex2

The AIA web site is out of date for the fitbit devices; they specify certain ones you can use but none of them are currently on the market.

I suggest you call spt for AIA and ask them if they have an updated list of fitness tracking devices you can get daily credits for using. Their phone number 1800848254

    • This great advice, thanks. I'm mainly confused because they list 5 or so brands, and each brands has a dozen devices… But your personal experience and the devices you mentioned are very useful.

P.S. AIA Vitality was mentioned in a couple of posts here recently, so I figured there would be lots of people signing up for them these days. It's a pretty cool service, from what I've seen so far (apart from how confusing it has been to sync my activities through my phone).

  • I'm trying to find an Android app compatible with a Samsung Galaxy s7 and the aia vitality app. The recommended moves app has counted 800 steps and my damsung health has counted 7000 steps. I know I would've done at least 7000 steps. Has anyone come up with a free option rather than me buying a fit it or garmin?

  • I use the Fitbit Flex 2 to track steps… It doesn't have any fancy screens and doesn't track heart rate either… But it was the cheapest device I could find to sync with the AIA Vitality app…

  • I've recently signed up to AIA Vitality and am looking at buying a fitness tracking device to earn some points..

Other than the brands recommended by AIA (e.g. Fitbit, Jawbone, etc.) does anyone know if any other devices work with AIA - for example, the Samsung Galaxy Watch or Xiaomi Mi Band 3? (Keeping in mind the Australian AIA app doesn't have support for S-Health).

AIA also lists Runkeeper, Strava, etc. but as far as I know, those are fitness apps rather than trackers.. so does that mean I can use any fitness device that can sync with Runkeeper or Strava?

    • Hey mate did you find a solution to this yet? I don't want to buy a fitbit or Garmin, hoping someone has figured out how to sync devices like the galaxy watch, through to AIA rewards
