Cheap Android Touchscreen.

I'm looking to purchase a cheap Android touch screen phone.

My budget is about $200, I don't mind if the phone is second hand as long as it's in good condition.

I don't care too much about the phone brand as long as it has GPS, WIFI and and a decent camera.

Thanks in advance.

  • Garmin Nuvi phone at DSE. They also have a couple of Huawei's that would suit, but if GPS is important to you then, $199 FTW! :)

It might be Optus but they are actually unlocked, IIRC they qualify for free lifetime Garmin map updates; and can be updated free to Android 2.2! ;)

    • +2

      2.1 not 2.2 I believe

      • You could well be right there, I'm too lazy to look for the original thread so I'll defer to you on this! :)

@BarginHunter, search OzB & WP for this phone, there was fairly comprehensive discussion on it at one stage! ;)

        • Thanks for the info. I'll check it out.

  • The Garmin has a very nice GPS app. I wouldn't describe the camera as decent, but in the $200 handset range (even secondhand), I doubt any handset would meet that definition… In fact, very few phone cams would meet my definition of decent.. The Nokia N8 cam does and that's about all from the current crop…

But apart from the price, and depending on your definition of "decent", that set of features sums up any Android handset I'm aware of…

Huawei IDEOS 8150 is another contender.. $150ish locked to Crazy Johns. or $200ish unlocked from DSE.

(Note: despite what DSE say, the Garmin-ASUS Nuvifone A50 is unlocked at $199)

  • I've seen some second hand HTC phones that fit into my price Range on ebay. Would that be worth a risk ? Also in terms of camera i currently have an N95 8gb and the 5mpx camera on it i feel is really good so something similar to that.

  • You could get the Sony Ericsson X10 mini for $199 delivered from Optus.

    • I checked out some reviews of this phone on Cnet and was not impressed tbh, especially when people mentioned lag. I already have a phone that lags like hell I don't need another one.

      Thanks for the info.

  • …… wrong

  • LG Optimus 540 from Optus $199. I have one n am happy. You can up grade it to android 2.1

  • email me [email protected], I have an unlocked HTC Legend, though I'll see about that price..

    • you better quickly put it on ebay. i sold mine for $380 last week! after ebay and paypal was $340-ish

  • May be this is your answer

Huawei IDEOS U8150 Android 2.2 Phone+4GB MicroSD $159 Crazy Johns Prepaid

    • That Huawei has a slow cpu :/

      • You can't get your hands on a Garmin A50? Not surprised, those things sold out pretty damn quick.

The A50 is the only sub $200 Android phone that has a 600mhz CPU and 480x320 touchscreen.
Anything below that price point, you'll have specs roughly equivalent to a Huawei IDEOS (528mhz CPU and 320x240 screen)

If you can afford to spend a little bit more I'd suggest a second hand HTC Legend or perhaps a brand new Samsung Galaxy i5800 for $265. (667mhz CPU)

        • hmm thanks for the info scrimshaw. I think I'll wait a while and see if some of the htc's drop in price.

        • Correct me, if I am wrong. But I heard that the collaboration between Garmin and Asus no longer exists.
So future updates for the phone can be a problem.
Do you have any idea personally about the phone. As I want another Android after having bought HTC Legend :)
I like speed of Legend, its quite responsive.

  • Is there anything you can get new at the moment for this price (Around $200) that would be better than a Samsung Galaxy 1?
I haven't looked at phones since I bought my N85 years ago, comparing new ones is really confusing.

    • Decided to go for an Xperia X10i for $120 instead (which is a good phone with latest firmwares). Upgrade when the dualcore phones drop in price.

      • Galaxy S is far superior to X10i in that it has the capability to install 3rd party ROMs.

  • Ive got this and have had no problems with it. Great budget android v2.3 packed with features including Wifi Hotspot! http://dicksmith.com.au/product/E7421/huawei-sonic-android-v…
