Hi! First time poster here.

Been keeping an eye on the Zhiyun Crane M gimbal for quite some time as it supports small cameras, phone and GoPro.

Usually sells around the $389 mark. (DWI)

Listed on Teds Cameras for $599.95 but when clicking on the link, it displays $299.95.

Purchased item and just received invoice through email.
Let’s hope it’s not a glitch!

Enjoy :)

Darn, I've been wanting one of these, but ended up getting a Smooth Q.

Smooth Q is for smartphone, this is for compact camera or small mirrorless camera. Different size.

You assumed he is ignorant yet it’s you that appears the fool.

        • Yes, I'm well aware what the Crane-M is used for :D I wanted the Crane-M for my Hero 6, Nex6 and Note8. But after consideration, I went with the cheaper option of the Smooth Q with a gopro adapter since the Crane-M has been quite exy until now. I upgraded to the XT-20, but the Crane M does not support it's weight. The Hero 6 takes pretty decent video, so don't think I would really use a compact system camera on there. Pretty happy with the Smooth Q so far, however if the Crane-M was this price 2 months ago, I would have bought the Crane-M.

          @Penro:

I was in the same boat. Sadly I tested in a store and the M won’t balance a NEX, even though it’s within the weight range. It’s the lens that appears to be the problem, I guess it’s more for point and shoot cameras.

This put me into a completely different price bracket so I gave up and settled on the Q just for the smartphone.

Crane M is compatible with smaller devices like mobile phones and action cameras

        • I know you can use smartphones on Crane M, but why unless you are also planning to use compact camera on it too. For smartphone only, just save your money and use either a Smooth Q or Smooth 3. Now LoopyLou do you feel like a fool now?

@edfoo: whilst i agree with your advice there are conceivable reasons to get the crane m beyond the payload. The crane m has 360 degrees on all 3 axes, so you can flip it however you want since there are no wires around the joints and the m also does a better job of stabalisation due to larger motors as well as range of motion. The cheaper smartphone gimbals usually have 320 degree or so only on roll and tilt. Some people may also prefer the brush metal build of the crane m over the plastic of the smooth q.

          @Fiximol:

          • the option to replace batteries
  • I wonder if it fights with OIS on phones like the DJI osmo does?

    • +1

I almost bought the DJI Osmo 2. Luckily Apple didn’t have a test product in stock. Glad I waited. I’ll find out in a few days once I get it!

  • new version coming? neither eglobal nor dwi sell them anymore

    • Haven’t looked into it but I’ve just noticed COTD have taken it off their website too. Interesting…

  • Is this better than the Zhiyun Crane V2 (not Zhiyun Crane 2)

PS we know Ted's RRP is overpriced.

    • This is one size down from the crane.

    • Is this better than the Zhiyun Crane V2 (not Zhiyun Crane 2)

crane m is for smaller cameras. so if you have a camera that is getting to the crane m maximum load, crane v2 is better.

      • Spot on. I’ll be using the Crane M with my Canon G7X and iPhone. If you have a DSLR, the Crane V2 would suit.

  • For reference it's on sale at George's Cameras for $405.

  • 5 cents below the TRS threshold

    • Just add a cleaning cloth

    • Exactly my thoughts when I saw the pricing :D

  • Nice find, but just purchased a Crane Plus for $480

  • I joined Club Ted (again) through my biz email and said it was my birthday today, got a $20 voucher and the Crane M for $280 shipped :)

I had the original Crane big one (not v2) and sold it on Gumtree last year for about $550 knowing I would eventually get the smaller one this year, as I have a Sony A6300.

So win, win, win and the $20 goes towards a mini tripod which is a mandatory accessory for the Zhiyun Crane.

    Thanks OP

      Winning!

Now listed on their ebay store. In case you have one of those 10% off code

  • You'll find it this price at most stores very soon, it's had a price drop to $329 rrp

  • +1

Just FYI, I was gung ho about the Zhiyun but I forgot about the Feiyu a1000, which doesn't block the screen AND has a Sony control cable worth $30 included…..weighs an extra 100 grams but there is new model A1000NF with much better payload with new motors for 2018, (1.7kg vs 650g for Crane M) and it's available with grey market warranty from aliexpress for $384 using mobile app and US$8 coupon (US$295) from CoolDigital Store.

So I called Ted's this morning and cancelled my order.

But whichever gimbal you choose, I also found the best mini tripod. Trust me this was not easy, there is a lot of crappy ones even Manfrotto one is crap if your primary purpose is for a gimbal. Semi-fast delivery option from Aliexpress unlike eBay ones: https://goo.gl/HZLaie

  • great price! if only v2 will drop…

  • Ted's Cameras eBay store has it for $279.90 (including $9.95 delivery).

using the 10% off code, PAYBACK

Yep, looks like V2 is just around the corner, as B&H has reduced this greatly too. This price was too good to pass up though.
