Greeting Card software

My grandmother has been using PictureIt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Picture_It!) for years and loves making greeting cards for birthdays and Christmas, etc. She's just upgraded to Win7 Home Edition but PictureIt does not work with Win7.

I can't set up WinXP Mode within Win7 because that does not work on Win7 Home Edition.

Does anyone know of a free or reasonably priced software package that makes greeting cards and has a simple interface? It must have the ability to upload her own photos to put onto the cards.

I looked at Hallmark software in Harvey Norman (http://www.hallmarksoftware.com/products/Card_Studio_Deluxe_…) but it's $80RRP and I could only get it down to $70 best price.

A bit of searching reveals there's not a lot of truly free software in this field and I suspect the easiest outcome is to pay some cash and get something with a decent user interface that doesn't rely on the user to continuously download new templates from a website.

Thoughts, comments and suggestions all welcomed! Thanks in advance!

  • I should also add that she's aware she can go print a photo card at a kiosk in a store but she'd prefer to do it herself since (1) she has more time to edit and place the image at home rather than being pressured for the machine by other customers, and (2) she has a decent colour laser printer and photo quality paper.

    • Thanks jakey69,

I had discovered that page during my research but the "buy now" buttons are all US-based. The prices are substantially different in Australian shops. For example, the most recommended product - "Printmaster 2011 Platinum" is $24.99 through Herman Software (who don't ship outside USA/Canada) but $70 through Australian retailers (eg: http://www.softwaretime.com.au/printmaster-2011-platinum). That's why I am hoping someone knew of more reasonable prices.

Thanks for providing the link though - much appreciated!

You can install 2 OS and boot XP for this program.

    • I probably could do that though I don't have experience with it before and I'm a bit concerned that if I set it up in a clunky fashion, it's not me that has to deal with it, and I'll be a few hundred kms away…

Tempting as your other offer was (before it got unpublished), I figure it's best to be legit on this particular computer.

  • Hello, can you please post your email so i can contact you about this?

    • I've updated my profile - you should be able to email me now.

      • yep thanks

  • I have been using hallmark card studio 2011 deluxe for the past month and it's pretty good. You can use your own photos and change text etc. It also has quotes/sayings that you can use (if I remember correctly).

After creating the card, you can either print it out and send it or convert the card into an avi (with music and sound effects for each side of the card) and email it. Another thing is that it says Hallmark at the end of the card - a bonus if you are into that sort of thing.
