Seeing as how you can't import these anymore, does anyone have a local source for laser modules (pref Melbourne for pickup)?
I have a number of objects I need to 3D-scan, and have been playing with David Laserscan using a low power barcode laser scanner and getting good results, but would like to use their more recommended laser: green, 5-10 mW and focussable. It must be a line laser though, not just a point. I know Jaycar sell a decent point green laser module - any chance of getting a line lens for it or something?

Since when can't you import them? Last I heard you cannot import Laser POINTERS (since 2008)… but getting modules through customs was no problem whatsoever.
I just searched the Customs site… couldn't find anything at all that says that modules are banned.
Go to http://laserpointerforums.com/ and poke around / register / ask… they are very helpful and will also recommend suitable module suppliers.
