What 4K TV's to Avoid or Be Wary of? Sub $1000 Budget Range

Thought instead of just asking for recommendations on just good models of 4k TV's why not also ask for some recommendations on what to avoid or models or be wary of and highlight some tv models that have become shockers or have high fail rates or really bad specifications or deals or experiences or whatever.

Basically help your fellow ozbargain members out with a nice caution warning on some bad models you have personal experience with or someone you know might of.

Personally for me I am interested in the sub $1000 range so I can finally buy a tv for console gaming, world cup, YouTube, Netflix and with chroma subsampling 4:4:4 so it can be used as a pc monitor but honestly any bad tv's worth mentioning should be put down here or just name your bad experiences or tidbits of information you have some across elsewhere in your tv research travels.

The budget category is always hard to find out which is the best bang for buck and has the lowest failure rates but hopefully if we get enough positive votes on one model or negative votes on certain models we will know which better to choose.

Maybe scrimshaw or scotty can do a poll series on tv ranges? Pretty please.

  • Any feedback will depend on what size screen you want/require.

    • Leaning towards Hisense 55-65 inch variety.

HDR not important but would be a nice addition me thinks.

I already know 75 inch Hisense can be had for around $1600-$2000 AUD delivered on sale so might not be the best value or bang for buck.

55 inches is nice but having seen 65 I think I might aim for that. The premium is worth imho.. 75 would be perfect but eh might be just a tad too big after checking them in store.

Honestly some of the 70" deals I have seen from Costco were good.

Just need to cover all purposes from pc monitor usage to low input lag for gaming to decent for sports and Netflix and YouTube in 4k.

As for what will be plugged in probably just a Xbox a ps4 and a pc down the line (small retro Windows tablet for now for starcraft 1 and some other retro games)

  • I have the Hisense 65N7 and love it.

Need to play around with settings but love the picture and only fault is wish I did the 75 inches as you get used to the size very quickly.
I like the UI of the Hisense with youtube and netflix very accessible.

Other issue is I'm still on ADSl at 4mbps! so 4k is a struggle.
Have got an Xbox one which looks great and HDR is well worth it.

Got the Hisense 65n7 for $1340 which although above your range may be a good one.

    • Hmm ok I am thinking of saving up for it or a 75 inch now N7

  • Yeh go for 75 inch!
