My trick to keep an eye on a product page on OzBargain (automatically)

Heya All,

Just wanted to share with you a little trick I have to keep an eye on a product on the OzBargain website.
I've recently bought an amazing priced Sony x850e TV because of a bargain I saw on here (55" for just $1,029!!!!!).
So I'm literally dying to upgrade my PS4 to the Pro version.

I've been watching the PS4 pro page on here like a hawk (twice a day!) but am getting a little tired of it.
So I just made myself an account on Wachete so that it keeps on eye on the page for me!

It's only watching the table with the deals, not the other parts of the page like the advertising, right column, bottom footer, etc. which would change frequently. So if anyone posts a new deal for the ps4 pro hopefully Wachete should email me! (Well - that's the theory anyway!)

Thought I'd share this with y'all since I've gotten a lot out of this community of ppl who share with me the love of finding a good bargain!

Peace!

To the devs: It would be so amazing if we could subscribe to a product, so if a new bargain comes about it we will automatically get an email!

Could also subscribe to the RSS feed…

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/playstation-4-pro/feed

    • So if I subscribe to this feed on my firefox, will it automatically tell me that there is something new in the feed? Or do I have to keep checking it? Or is there a feed reader you can recommend that will automatically tell me if there is something new in the feed? Thanks for your help!

Also, you can search for something (like: PS4 PRO) and there's a 'Create Alert' icon at the top that will e-mail you every time that phrase comes up.

  • The problem isn't that we can't build an email subscription to a product page. You can already follow the page via RSS. It's that often deals are either incorrectly tagged with a product e.g. iOS apps with iPhone or Playstation Games with Playstation 4. Or they aren't tagged at all which is most common. Mods and power users go through all of the deals to correctly tag each one but often on weekends/holidays we are 2 days behind.

Best way to get an email subscription would be to use search alerts and stick in the keyword of what you want.

    • I find the Search Alerts, but more importantly the search in general, is of limited utility because you can't restrict it just to title. If I search for 'Hisense' for example, and restrict it to just deals, there's still only one result on the first page that is actually selling a Hisense product.

      • but more importantly the search in general, is of limited utility because you can't restrict it just to title.

        Add "option:titleonly" via search help

If I search for 'Hisense' for example

You can go to the Hisense page and then browse through the products.

          option:titleonly

Problem solved. Thanks! I personally think this should be a checkbox on the search page though, similar to eBay.

    • great! Thanks for that, I've created the alert. rubbing hands together in money saving glee

Everyone knows the only true OzBargain way is to sit on the page constantly refreshing. Wont miss any deals that way.

I can't imagine why that would be, but I hope you pull through.

    • It's a common cause of Affluenza going around. I am also dying for this. I'm hoping there's a good new bundle deal on April 20 when God of War gets released. It's our only hope.

You say you want it bad? Could be worse. I bought one second hand on Gumtree interstate via Paypal. Never arrived. Currently following it up with police :/

    • Doh! :( PayPal didn't give you buyer protection? Damn!

      • Paypal doesn't give protection for gumtree as of mid-late last year
