    PLUGNPLAY

    Plug 'n' pray.

    • Are these Crucial ones no good?

The general reputation on crucial has been pretty good so far so I don't what that user on about.

        • My thoughts also - thank you.

    My experience with Crucial MX500s:

    3/3 Failures within 24 months.

    • +3

The 500 series is a relatively new release and has a 5 year warranty

3/3 failures in 24 months i would be checking out your power supply , these drives are very well reviewed .

or the motherboard/controller card that's writing to them…

This was in 3 different devices. The warranty was good and I had them all replaced, but in the end I just asked for a refund. It's pretty inconvenient having to restore from backups that many times.

This is a very recent review and whilst they are good and fast drives, you will be hard-pressed getting reliability statistics.

Crucial MX500s were relase December 2017, making them about 5 months old. You claim you've purchased and expetienced 3 failures across 3 devices in that time?

I'll call bullshit McBanjo or it isn't MX500s you've been using.

MX500s utilise Micron's very reliable flash, they didn't use this flash in older models.

      • Correction. Not MX500s specifically, but Crucial drives in general. Like I said, reputation wise these specific models may be fine, but hard to know reliability rates. Only going by past performance of the brand and track record.

        • With the MX500s specifically they are using new tech for Crucial, Micron 64L 3D NAND, apparently the reliability has improved they've added two more years to the warranty to 5 years now.
