  • Jacked price for 20% off, Catch has $287 free shipping
Looks alright, I might sell my 7.1 and get this.

  • Does it support wifi? I would like to be able to connect to my network.

    • Doesn't appear that it is networked.

    • No, this is Yamaha's base model.

      No networking, USB or Bluetooth.

Paid $256 from catch ebay a couple months ago, but this isn't too bad I guess.

It's been pretty good so far; HDR works, 4K@60Hz 4:4:4 on PC works, 4K upscaling works, and the sound is obviously a lot better (paired with some cheap 4" Micca speakers) than the logitech Z5100 it replaced. Also supports DTS, Dolby Digital, and Dolby Digital Plus codecs.

Downside for some might be no networking, Dolby Vision/Atmos etc.., but you shouldn't really expect those features for this price.

  • Is this better than just connecting a TV via the headphone jack to an analogue amplifier?

    • Um, headphone jack is an output. You need to input the TV signal. Or you mean the headphone jack on the TV? You won't get Dolby Digital or DTS surround sound, although you might get virtual surround sound e.g. Dolby Pro Logic or PL II) depending on the amp's capabilities.

      • What I'm wondering is if it's worth spending money on one of these digital audio receivers when we can still use an analogue reciever.

In my case I just use two speakers.

Stick with the analogue unless contemplating upgrading to a home theatre set up.

Well, you'll need 5.1 speakers to use this amp to it's full capabilities so probably not much point in buying this ATM.

A good analogue amplifier will sound better than a poor digital amplifier.
A good 2 speaker or 2.1 speaker setup will sound better than a poor 5.1/7.1/9.1/etc setup.
