Hi guys had a thunderstorm and smoke alarm had water coming through, well there is definitely a leak in the roof. The safety switch that says protected light is off and can’t turn on again. All other switches are fine. What does this mean? My smoke alarm is battery operated so I’m puzzled as to how it broke circuit.

Water has tripped the lighting circuit, most likley via one of the light fitings.
Obviously you will need to get some one out to identify the source of the water inundation.
Technically you should call a sparky out to give everthing the all OK.
In terms of what direction you take, bear in mind you insurance.
The smoke alarm is probably hardwired, as they do have battery back up, mine are wired into the lighting circuit.
You may also need to consider ventilating the roof cavity to dry it out.
A carpet blower would be ideal.probably a big pool of water up there. turn off all the electricity and have a look about with a torch. you need to spot the leak anyways. otherwise if you wait long enough it will probably sort itself out, assuming you don't have another storm.
There could be water in the lighting fixture since they aren't waterproof and you can easily access the wire screw points.
