4x Philips Hue E27 Ambiance Bulbs Delivered, Tuneable White £67.76 / ~ $124.23 AUD, Colour £104.44 / ~ $191.48 AUD @ Amazon UK

120

Probably only relevant to people that have decided they want to go with Philips Hue but are waiting for a discount from the ridiculous usual prices.

Says on listing they don't deliver to Australia, but that disappears once you go through checkout.

Retail prices in Aus are $49/$89 each respectively.

There's a buy two get 15% off promotion so 2x two packs gives the best discount.

  • Good price on the colour versions. 4 x b22 colour is an extra £10.

  • Don't these need bridge? New Yeelights have 800 lumens and half the price.

    • These are zigabee where yeelight are WiFi, these will respond faster and 0.1 watt less power then new rgbw yeelight. Also compatible natively with nest

    • -2

Yeelights can only be controlled via the internet. Even from your own house, your commands have to travel out to a xiaomi server and then back to simply change colour or turn on or off. Hue bulbs can be controlled within your own domain.

At home it's over LAN and not WAN.

        • Via app and Google home and Alexa it's via internet no internet no light controls

You can enable lan mode for home assistant

        • Are you sure the app doesn't require internet access to control the lights? Everything I have read indicates this is a requirement.

        • @asa79: thanks for the comment - I didn't realise you could use HA to control them. I use hue dimmer and tap switches. I guess you could use xiaomi switches via HA as well.

        • @wolfshooter: via HA you can use any brand to control

        • @wolfshooter: I don't have any specific hub.
I just use Alexa (Echo Plus) to control it. Skill is inbuilt and you can control in app or voice.

  • I’ll just leave this here www.lifx.com.au/collections/sale

I have both and must say I prefer the Hues. With Lifx each individual light will be it's own wifi connection, and I've found they can sometimes just lose connection altogether. I have a really good router, and you'd want to.
And if you turn them off at the switch they take considerably longer than the Hues (running on the Zigbee non-wifi standard) to reconnect so you can control them again.

      • Fair enough. I’ve got 5 with no issues so far. I didn't like the idea of a hub.

        • +3

5 isn't alot of lights. Wait till you have 15+

        • Yeah that puts a lot of people off. I had a spare port in my router and plenty of space so it didn't bother me.
I also like the fact that Hue has better accessories (switches, motion sensors etc).

That said, the Lifx colour accuracy and brightness are sensational. It's really up to the individual as to what they prioritise (and what's on sale of course!)

    • +2

The sale is pretty weak to be honest

      • +1

That's why I left it in a Hue thread 😂

  • How did you manage to get past the ‘item cannot be delivered to your selected address’ ?

    • +4

Bought a new house to go with it.

    • I just added to cart - and it proceeded to check out OK.

  • Also if you have echo plus you don't need the hue hub

  • If you’re just after (normal/warm) white, they are usually $29 each from stores or can be slightly cheaper from https://simply-leds.com.au/ with free shipping above $100.

    • Yeah those entry model bulbs are good. Places like the Good Guys and JB HiFi - you can get it down to $23 each if you ask the sales rep

  • How did you get £67.76? Including shipping to Sydney for me was £70.57

    White ambience was as follows:

    Items:GBP 68.22
    Postage & Packing:GBP 12.58

    Total before VAT: GBP 80.80
    VAT: GBP 0.00
    Total: GBP 80.80
    Promotion Applied: -GBP 10.23
    Order Total: GBP 70.57

    The colour version was:

    Items: GBP 116.72

    VAT: GBP 0.00
    Total: GBP 130.57

    • Check if the base is the same. B22 are more expensive compared to E27.

      • Definitely E27 - assume it is just a variation in the shipping calculation.

        • No I think they've gone up in price.

          @wolfshooter:

          You are right.

          Apr 12, 2018 06:45 PM £37.24

Still the cheapest I can find.

  • I'm not getting the promotion applied when I add these to my basket, what am I doing wrong?

  • Comes to 124.48gbp for me so $229 with a small promotional discount of 19.46gbp

Edit: didn't realize they were twin packs

  • Looks like colour B22 have come down to the same price as E27. Just cancelled my order for the white ambiance and went the colour
