Packing a Suit after Morning Exercise

How do you pack your suit in the morning if you exercise?

My gym is about a 20m walk from home, and my workplace is a 40m train ride from the gym.

I want to start working out in the mornings, and then going straight to work from there. However, I don't know what the optimal solution is for bringing my suit (and particularly my shirt) without it wrinkling.

It seems like there's probably a simple solution I'm missing. I was thinking of wrinkle-free shirts, but my shirts are company-attire. Even if they weren't, are wrinkle-free shirts, say from CT, good enough to not show wrinkles after being in a duffel bag?

Any thoughts or advice appreciated.

Why don't you try a shirt like this? Should survive the duffel bag without any problems.

    • Your statement is literally correct.

Suits are bullshit of the old days of lords and everyone never walking backwards from said master. This is an unhealthy custom from the old days.

    • Yeah, you're right, there are no power structures anymore any you just do what you want! \o/

i never claimed there werent any power structures, i was simply stating they need to die, and suits enables the old ways to continue by giving it life.

You need to learn how to read.

        • they need to die

I don't think the suit itself is that bad. The worst part of the whole thing is the tie! I'm so glad that lots of work places have decided to do away it!

          @bobbified:

Yes ties are stupid, they serve no purpose, just like all those people wearing a suit especially on a hot day. Suits are not comfortable compared to other clothing, their expense also means you have to be careful they dont get damaged and a whole lot more.

The only happy people about suits are the suit manufacturers. Nobody buys a suit and rides a bike, or goes for a picnic, or a walk.

        • @ninetyNineCents: I have done all those things in a suit XD

Drive to the gym and leave the suit in the car. Get dressed, leave the car behind at the station and catch the train.

    • Hard to find parking where I am. I guess it would be easier if I'm there 30-60m earlier for the gym. Thanks.

Didn't seem to be an issue for Clark Kent

    Quit your job, problem solved.

Oh you need something similar to the Preston Duffel Bag. I say similar because that version is expensive.

    • thats heaps cool ,might try to find a cheaper version. i have a job interview interstate and i might need it there

    • Oooh. Thanks for that, I might look around.

Can't you hang your suit up at work? You can drive in on Mondays and bring enough shirts for the week, and take the old ones home to wash when you go home.

    • Impossible to park where I work without hefty wilson/secure parking costs. Guess I could be a pain to everyone else and carry all my stuff on public transport mon/fri.

      • Carpool and share parking costs? Any colleagues live in your suburb?

        • Unfortunately nobody is near me or on my way, but good idea.

wear this and no one will care about wrinkles. You'll also be promoted sooner.

Its not called a performance suit for nothing.

I was going to suggest a dinosaur suit, but yours is way better!

Do you have a change area at work ? Eg for those who cycle in?

Even if there aren’t lockers you might be able to hang your suit up somewhere when you leave (most offices have cupboards for winter coats) then get changed at work.

    • Yeah that might be the go. Hard part is the shirts, imo.

20 metre walk? Just pop home for a shower and change there

I assume he means minute by the usage of 40m train ride.

      • -1

Never assume, it makes an ass out of U and I.

      • I was initially confused as well. "min" is the accepted shortened parlance.

        • +1

Yeah my bad, I meant minutes.

I used to ride from Hornsby to Manly everyday for work. I'd leave my suit at work and dry clean every few weeks near work. My shirt would come in my backpack gently folded. It worked well.

    • I'll try out gently folding the shirt and see how it travels.

  • +1

Could you use a dry cleaners bag to carry the suit in?

    • Yeah, I saw a nice bag above that's basically just a rolled up dry clean bag.

  • +2

A lot of people at work have these bags https://henty.cc/ They seem to do the job

    • Great thanks! Problem solved :D

    • Thanks for the suggestion! Picked one up with a coupon + cashback and I'm loving it so far!

Some of the guys arrive earlier at work and get changed there. Once a week they'll drop off all their suits for the week at the office.

I use a Gant garment carrier. My suit goes on a hanger inside it and there are side pockets for toiletries, keys phone etc.
    There's even a pocket for a laptop.
When packed it folds up and looks just like a normal carry bag.
There's a few companies that make them. I also have a Samsonite for when I am flying light.

    • Thanks! This is much cheaper than henty but wish it could used for bike commuting too….

  • Get yourself a ~30cm cardboard tube (e.g. from aluminium foil roll).
Do up all the buttons on the shirt
Lay the shirt on the bed(or wherever is convenient) (front is best) making sure that you smooth out any kinks.
Measure the roll against the shirt and fold in the sides until you have a cm on each side
Fold the shirt sleeves onto the shirt.
Take the roll and tightly roll the shirt around it until you get to the collar, making sure there are no kinks .
Take 2 rubber bands and place one over each end of the shirt-roll to hold it in place.
You may have a line where you folded the edges of the shirt but is will be wrinkle-free. If you can fit a longer roll inside your bag then you may not have to fold the shirt at all.
Or just get a garment bag which will work for the suit as well.

    • I'll try this out. I'm looking at garment bags now, but if this works it'd be amazing.
