Is the Google Pixel XL(1st Gen) a good buy?

Is Pixel XL still a good buy in 2018?

Pros:
1. Price
2. Great Screen
3. OS/Security Updates

Cons:
1. Outdated design/Bezels
2. Seller Warranty
3. New Pixel coming this October.

Would love to know your views on it.

Also, anyone have thoughts on this seller?

  • Solid phone, biggest neg is lack of expandable storage

    • But it gets unlimited storage on google photos!

      • Do you use your phone to store content other than images? I also use mine for music and apps

        • I mostly stream my music and I was previously using a 32 gig Nexus 5x(until it bootlooped)

  • The original Pixel seems like a mid range phone now, well it's probably in the high priced mid range phone range. Good thing it has is the headphone jack along with all the pros you mentioned.

I'm using a similar kind of phone with similar specs (the Mi 5s Plus from Xiaomi) so if i can use this phone, i'm sure the Pixel XL would be a good buy for you. At $700 AUD i'm not sure (since my one costed about $470 AUD) you should buy it, because it is still too pricey, but it is still a better phone than most mid-range and flagship phones.

    • +1

The Pixel XL is available for $449, I don't know if the seller is reliable or not.

      • That's a really low price, too low imo. Most of the websites have it from $600 and upwards.

    No.

It wasn't a good buy to start with.

    • Why so? Apart from expandable memory it ticks all boxes.

      I agree. Get an iPhone

I wouldn't even consider a seller with less than 99% feedback rating, especially for a $450 item.

    • Yes, that is why I haven't pulled the trigger.

  • Have you seen the $59 telstra plan available right now until end of the month for the Pixel 2 XL? Can be put down to $49 per month for 15GB data (some can get an extra 5GB on top).

    • Apologies should have mentioned that I'm looking to buy the device outright.

  • The Google Pixel is a fine phone and I have no problems recommending it. I myself am using the Pixel 2 XL and the experience is great! Fast, smooth and that camera! Oh man. But I think this eBay listing is cause for concern. $449 is too good a price for the hardware, and I would imagine any warranty claims would be quite a headache if not through Google themselves. Further, if you check the eBay profile, he was originally based in Malaysia. Not sure if he still is, but I imagine it'd be a logistical nightmare to have it send there in the event the phone needs servicing and judging by the negative feedback comments, it's likely to have problems

  • No. unless you don't mind that Google have just announced support for the handset (o/s updates, security ECT) are going to cease soon. Pretty crap decision for a handset that is only 2 years old in my books. I'm on a pixel 2 xl right now and love it,but hope they don't do that to this device.

    • Noted. Thank you!

      Could you recommend something else.

      • Don't get me wrong: still be a great phone but most phones these days are given 2 years life span. Updates will still be going till Oct this year. The current Telstra deal is fantastic for the pixel 2( that's if you aren't on a plan, and/or don't mind being on a plan for the next 24 months). Had it for about week and it's awesome.
If you want a flagship Android ( if you want to spend$), note 8,s9 … Sounds like you want to spend 500 though, and you can some times get ok used phones on FB marketplace. My last 3 phones were from there.Just be wary.

    • Disagree - it's still quite comparable to all the flagships in performance, and now it's very cheap as well. IMO it's easily a superior device to the Galaxy S8 (better battery life, camera etc) and the fact that it runs native Android rather than an OEM skin is a massive advantage.

Google have said they'll stop releasing official updates for the OS later this year, but the security updates will keep coming for another 18 months yet. And there's nothing stopping manual updates with minimal effort later on.

  • "Brand New - Sealed" No it won't be a brand new phone that you would expect. It will be a refurbished phone probably with some used/fake/poor quality accessories. These sellers have a very well made structure to scam people. When you will receive the phone and realize that its a used phone or accessories are not original the seller will ask you to send it back. You pay the shipping cost. You contact eBay and it says the seller is following our instructions and you as a purchaser will have to bear the shipping cost. once it is shipped they will probably send you a refund. the whole process could take up to 2 months and most buyers don't bother about returning things because of additional hassle and cost involved. They now this psychology and the know the eBay and Paypal rules and policies very well so as a buyer you need to figure it out can someone really sell a freaking XL PIXEL for this price? it's too good to be true!
