JB Hi-Fi Sells Preowned Games as New?

I purchased a Super Mario Odyssey from JB Hi-Fi online store during their last 5% off promotion.

Today when I finally have time to unwrap the parcel, I notice it is used. There is no protection firm and the slot of the cartridge is seriously scratched. I know that since it is a game card, this may not affect its value, but I still don't feel comfortable about paying a higher price for a used good.

Can I return it even if it is technically not faulty? Since I brought it online, do I need to pay for the postage for returning? Or can I drop it into any one of their stores?

Why not visit https://www.jbhifi.com.au/General/Contact-Us/ then create a online store complaint?

Call them? They know their own policies better than we do…

If you bought it on the understanding it was new, you should be entitled to a replacement. The problem will be convincing them that it was used when you received it, rather than you damaging it.

    • This's the problem. I mean, how can I prove it.

      • You can't. But they'll probably take your word for it.

  • Its happened to me, but it was so cheap i couldnt be bothered returning em.

Nintendo games aren't always sealed, so it's not a good indicator of whether something is preowned.

    • Read OP before commenting. Cartridge is scratched.

EBGames has a 7 day return policy no questions asked. Probably how you ended up having a banged up cartridge sold to you as new.

      Wrong store.

      • Wow, my bad. Anywho the returns policy for JB HiFi online purchases says you can take it into any store. Change of mind returns can be made up to 30 days if unused and unopened but you shouldn’t have to worry about that because physical damage = faulty, even if it does work.

Buying games from brick and Mortar stores still looool

  • Unfortunately, this can be common in retail, usually need to specifically ask for manufacturer sealed items.

As others have suggested, there's no harm is contacting them for a replacement.
