25kb/s Telstra 4G at peak hour, acceptable or not?

Every morning, I work in the train using a remote connection. This time is important to me, as it allows me to see my kids when I get home. Otherwise I will have to stay later at the office.

One year ago, I didn't have any issue. Now it disconnects on regular basis. So I have been doing speed test on daily basis.

The result is simple, I have 25kb/s instead of > 1mb/s.

It became difficult/impossible for me to work in the train, impacting directly my family and my work life balance.

For me, it is inefficiency that reduces the competitiveness of our country.

So do you think it is acceptable or not?

  • I get no reception using Optus on my train trip from the Sydney CBD - I agree its unacceptable but it is what it is. To me the thought of working on the train using a remote connection in Sydney is amusing - absolutely no chance of getting a good connection.

    It is acceptable.

Did I answer your rhetorical question right? What is the point of this post?

    • didn't you read his post? … "it's impacting directly my family and my work life balance" =)

    Its 4g, not g4
With my hotspot (also with Telstra) it may be slow at times (going from 4g to h+) in public transport but not completely disconnect.

When you said peak hour, did you mean peak hour when the internet is the busiest (i.e. netlifx time), or when there are a lot of commuters?

If it's the latter, perhaps you can politely ask everyone on the train to stop using their devices, so that you can have all the bandwidth, and thus your work life balance. Who are these guys anyway, all the losers who need to take a train to work.

If it's the former, unfortunately you have to buy out Telstra, and cancel all other subscribers to reduce the bandwidth contention.

  • What device are you using to connect? You might be able to lock the band that your connected too to get better speeds.

  • have you tried floptus or vodalone
