    Are these based on anything?

As in, is there a for sure non spyware rom for them?

    • +1

what do you define as spyware,

we have facebook selling your details, and Google also allowing access for targeted ads, so if you want android you need to accept googles terms and conditions or you can't even access the playstore ………. you are the product they sell to their customers….

      Guess you could buy apple.

Chinese government probably handles personal details better, at least they don't sell it to advertisers.

      • "you are the product they sell to their customers"

Funny thing you mentioned that. The fact is their customers also use android and I am sure many who work for google too. Merry go round.

      • I'd define it as apps built into the ROM that display ads ontop and install 3rd party applications without prompting you or asking for approval. Some models of Homtom for example do exactly that. You can be browsing through Facebook and BAM a near full size ad has popped up. Next thing you know you see a cheap flights app downloading and installing from the notification bar.

        • Precicely.

Why does he ask what is defined as spyware? Maybe he cant google the meaning.

Anything that data mines without permission is spyware.

Things like big brands all spell it out in the terms.
          Spyware usually does not.

        Never used facebook.
And i use aosp not google android.

Also, all my devices run through a custom built gateway i run from home (OpenVPN protocol), with massive ip ranges blocked and custom blocklists.
From there, dns and my home internet is run through a paid VPN service.

I'd actually be very curious (outside of my shopping habits) what "they" have.

Why would i access the playstore? All open source apps are available on github.
Also if i wanted playstore, chromium has a plugin to access the apk directly.

You only need to give up privacy if lazyness/convenience is worth more to you.

You think you are protected… yeah right.
If someone wants to get you, they will. If it goes bad, it will go bad for all since we are all on this small boat called the earth and there is no disembarking.

        • @bargainparker: why do i think that?

          What makes you say that?

If "someone" wants "me" of course they will find me.
If generic passive data mining wants generic targets from a mass populous, Im fairly confident.

Also, you're clearly rather small minded if you think earth is small, and if you think people who want to disapear are unable to.

If you're so confident, i expect every missing person found and every on-the-run criminal in my office by Monday, please.

        • @MasterScythe:

Technology is getting more and more sophisticated.

Maybe universe is huge https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gIbfYsQfNWs but humans can't just fly out somewhere else. The fact is you will leave trace regardless of how good u are at disappearing.

They are not in job of finding missing persons, not useful to them in any way.

        • @bargainparker: no, your're right.
Effortlessly solving crimes or finding lost loved ones wouldn't be in their interest.

Massive public trust and government relations (including billion dollar grants) wouldn't benefit the likes of google or facebook at all, would it?

          What WAS i thinking?

Edit: i do this sort of work for a living, so id love to see what data you have on this.
If you eliminate tracable IP. You eliminate cookies. You eliminate hardware addresses. And You eliminate tracable payments (which as i said, is something im NOT doing, im aware of this) and you obfuscate data trend analysis by the likes of onion routing THROUGH said vpn….

          Then what method is left?
          Enlighten me.
          It'll further my career.

Btw. Technology is getting more complex, more sloppy, and thus flawed (if you dont code it yourself). Its hardly more sophisticated. Thats advertising jargon right there.

        • @MasterScythe:

"Massive public trust and government relations (including billion dollar grants) wouldn't benefit the likes of google or facebook at all, would it?"

Yeah, sorry. I didn't know this is a perfect world.

Just look up the history, how people lived and how they live now. Roman empire had saying give citizens bread and circuses and it stood the test of time. it is still the same now regardless of who is in the power.

"Edit: i do this sort of work for a living, so id love to see what data you have on this."

So you do. unfortunately, if you are living under a rock, you can be traced as other people around you don't care as much as you do and as long as you are among people there will always be some who will be on Facebook and internet as a whole.

So tell me, how do you think to hide? Perhaps you are Jason Bourne?

        • @bargainparker: thats ok, you're still learning.
When it comes to gaining public dominance, it sure is a perfect world.
If as you claim, facebook could find every missing person and every criminal tomorrow, then the grants and public trust would be astronomical.
Everyone would trust them instantly and sing their praises.
When it comes to near limitless money and near limitless public praise, any company (if they were able, as you claim) wouldnt hesitate.

          Anyway,
Sure people around me have facebook, but what does that matter?

Everyone i associate with knows not to get me in photos.

And even if they do, that gives them at most a location. It still tells them nothing about me other than (past) location.

If i wanted to hide, id fly to any nation where money speaks and names arent needed, then jump another boarder and 'invent' someone.

          Tell me.

Why have all the combined governments not arrested the makers of the wannacry virus?

It has trillions of dollars in interest around catching them.

How about the original thieves of the eternalblue software? That was a direct hack of the NSA but, nope. Havent caught them

How about the tens of years it took to find daniel morcolmb? Why didnt they save the child the entire country looked for?

Fact is, even if they can do what you claim (which you still havent explained, beyond idiot scare mongering) with the raw data they have, all you've succeeded in doing is proving my point that "they" cant properly filter that data to get any useful information out of it.

          Thank you!

        • -1

          @MasterScythe:

Scare mongering? I could go on to discuss, but this is not the place for that. It's for the mobile phone discussion. Besides this could become a lengthy discussion, and the truth be told I am not really worried about it, even if they manage to microchip every living ant on this planet.

And… what are you doing to want to become invisible so you can't be found by any means?

      • "we have facebook selling your details"

I love all of these utterly uninformed statements.

It will come with Spyware. Your conversation will be recorded and translated immediately into Chinese…

  • I've got a Umi Z that's a bit over a year old, and it has significant battery bulge issues. Awaiting delivery of a Xiaomi Mi A1 to replace it. Poor that it's already having these issues, TBH, but otherwise it's been a decent phone.
