Hi all,
So this is what happened to me a few weeks ago:
I managed to negotiate a discounted post-paid SIM only plan with Optus via their online chat session ($30/m instead of $40/m with 15GB). However, during the application process, the online agent told me my credit check got declined. As a result, I cannot apply for any post-paid plan with Optus/Virgin for 90 days. He said there’s nothing he/Optus can do as they merely based their decision on the credit check information provided by third party credit check agencies. I was then told that Optus uses third party credit check agencies such as Equifax or Veda and if I think the credit result was incorrect, I should contact them. I then obtained the free credit reports from both agencies and the reports show my credit is absolutely fine.
About a week later, I visited a Optus store and tried to apply for the same plan again (no discount, so $40/m) and this time it was qucikly accepted, However, the salesperson didn't even bother reading the credit reports. So during a period of a week, my credit rating suddenly went from bad to good?
I’ve applied for credit cards before and also have a full time job now, never had issues with my credit ratings whatsoever. It seems to me that the online agent only wanted to get out of the discounted deal and used my “bad” credit rating as an excuse. I know it’s only a difference of $10/m, but an individual’s credit rating is very serious (could affect home loan approval, financing…etc), I’ll be very frustrated if they’ve also done this to other people as well. Both the credit reports now also show records of Optus enquiring twice about my file in a period of few days. Not sure if this will affect anything in the future. Anyone with similar experience? Or am I just thinking too much :P
online will auto decline if your name and dob doesn't exactly match the records which are held for you.
