Balancing HDMI Cords and Ports

Hey guys, so I'm a console gamer who likes to have a lot of consoles hooked up at once so that they're ready to play at any given time when I feel like it.

Currently the TV I am using has 4 HDMI ports and 2 Component ports

The consoles I currently have hooked up are as follows

HDMI 1 - Xbox One S
HDMI 2 - Wii U
HDMI 3 - PS4
HDMI 4 - Soniq HDMI adapter hub which has the Switch and PS3 connected to it.

Component 1 - Wii

Now all systems work perfectly well with this set up with the exception of the PS3 that has a tendency to disconnect and reconnect which causes the screen to go black sometimes for seconds at a time to the point where the TV simply says "no signal" before displaying the game again.

The PS3 is a 12GB super slim and only about 2 years old. It is running through an old-ish HDMI cable that my parents had bought maybe 8 years ago now.

I don't have the dropping In and out issue with any other system and it tends to happen most when installing game data or updates. (E.g. just played Child of Eden without issue and then when installing Prince of Persia trilogy and in the game menus, the disconnect occurs almost every 15 seconds or so)

Has anyome else experienced this?
Any ideas for what is causing the issue or alternative suggestions for how to possibly fix it?

Thanks in advance and sorry about the length of this post

  • try changing the cable around with a working one, at least it'd isolate the problem whether the cable is good or not…otherwise it sounds old, maybe wear and tear kinks/broken wire cores.

secondly to test the ps3 on ie HDMI1 slot. could be a faulty port of the tv?

i had issues when i bought some cheap eBay hdmi…until i did further research on how thick the wire gauge is. the cheaper ones use thin or very little amount of strands.
short distance i.e 1meter was ok but going for distance and walls, it failed.

for my 10meter distance…i had drop outs and flickers on the tv.
so i spent a bit more, 30-40bux on some premium cable, as i didn't want to keep ripping apart my wallplates or going thru the roof to reach and and pulled the cable thru the walls all the time.

    • So I tried moving some cords around and have found the issue does seem to be from the HDMI switch box unfortunately

  • You already know it is an old cable. Just swap them around to isolate the problem. If it still d/c, it could be the hub, then try another port for direct connection. Use some logic!

  • If you use an AV reciever (Or plan to get one) now would be a good time as HDMI switchers of quality and entry level, basic recievers cost about the same… except you can plug speakers into one and not the other.

    • as HDMI switchers of quality and entry level, basic recievers cost about the same

      The hell you smokin son?

      • You can get a cheap piece of shit one off eBay for ~$30 , or you can buy a second hand, entry level receiver for about $100…

I realise that's 3x more, but the benefit is using a single HDMI channel for most your devices, and keeping the cables under control.

  • What TV do you have I've had one that had this effect.

Does your TV have an auto or (auto 24p) in screen selection, for picture i.e in settings where you can choose pre set display options like vivid, home cinema, animation, etc so you get the best picture for input?

If so set that HDMI input to one dedicated scene like graphics or game whatever looks best for you, it stops tv from hunting for a better option as things change or it might not quite like the input.

If TV is UHD setting you need to run the standard setting on that input select 4.2.0 for older things instead of 4.2.2 which your input could be confusing the TV.

Both of these can do what you describe and you can get around it by changing some settings.
