It's all in the policy that is readily available at almost every counter.
Okay hear me out.
I go to Target and the store member tells me I can return something if I am not happy with it. I said does that include clearance items to which the store member said no clearance items can be returned, only on-the-shelf items. I was purely buying Easter Chocolates.
I come back after seeing things at Big W cheaper to which I get blatantly told that the refund policy doesn't accept food item returns.
The security guy at the door after he asked how I went and I told him they declined said "that's not right let me speak to the manager" and had to wait 15 mins for the manager. They were very curt in again pointing out the policy.
I don't agree with this policy nor understand it because I was taking back something that was wrapped in plastic and then wrapped again in whatever the chocolate was, but I respect it.The reason why I am annoyed is because I have actually returned a "consumable" before similarly wrapped with no dramas. Furthermore, the member actually told me I was allowed to and then the security guy told me that wasn't right.
I wasted maybe an hour all up once I countered in all the wait times and having to return the cheaper one to Big W (which they were fine about, no questions asked).
What is with all the inconsistency? Apparently it's been your policy for years so why doesn't your staff know about it?

I was going Easter shopping several days before when everything was still full price (there was a 20% sale on but Big W was cheaper). But that's not the point.The point is that the checkout member can't even say I wasn't able to return it. They said I could. That's the problem.

I went yesterday (Brisbane CBD). It was clearing out fast, most the Cadbury stuff was gone but there was a little of the Red Tulip and more of the home-brandy-type stuff ("the fabulous food company").
I took these pictures in store showing the 75% off though they don't actually show the Target logo so you'll have to take it on faith! (Was just whatsapping them around - I wanted to get the pug because it's so cool, but I don't particularly like milk chocolate and am of the opinion that Easter egg chocolate is pretty bad in general, specially generic brand stuff)
Target logo is in the bottom right hand corner of the price ticket
Saw it at Target in Adelaide CBD as well yesterday, not a lot left.
also Hornsby and Rouse Hill think it's at all Targets some cute toys too if you have little ones

Thanks, I was planning to go to Target (happens to be the closest department store to me) to get some chocolate but didn't know if they had a sale on.
No trace of any Easter sale or stock at my local store… :(
I guess if you can't get there on Tuesday, don;t bother.
Target lost my business after it wouldn't price match with Big W nor return any Easter products or even print me a receipt in one case (the exact member's words were: "you can't return it anyway so why do you need a receipt?")
75% off Easter @ Target is similar to 50-60% elsewhere…
