[PC] FREE - Crusader Kings II (89% Positive Reviews on Steam; Trading Cards) - Steam

1910

Simply click on "Install" or "Play game" and you will get a free copy of Crusader Kings II that you get to keep forever. Very simple.

Enjoy.

P.S.: Yes, this game has lots of DLC for sale and that's a bit of a bummer. But the base game for free is still fantastic.

Note: All DLC except for Jade Dragon (33% off) is currently 50%off.

If you want to know which one is worthwhile to get have a a look at this:

Amazing game…just note that there's a steep learning curve. Youtube fan made tutorials are your best friend on overcoming this.

If you get hooked by the game you'll end up wanting to get some of the DLC but agree with OP that base game is awesome. Check out here (https://www.strategygamer.com/articles/crusader-kings-2-dlc-…) for a DLC buyer's guide. Some of the DLC adds a lot (way of life, legacy of rome) and others are a bit of a waste unless you want to play a specific dlc locked nation (Rajas of India, etc.)

I've tried like 10 times to get into this, but I always get bogged down in the 30000 things I need to do and give up.

So…I have autism already. Huh…life makes so much more sense now.

You can also get a mod which allows you to play in the Game of Thrones Universe. Here's a link to the mod: http://www.moddb.com/mods/crusader-kings-2-a-game-of-thrones…

    • Awesome thanks!

How long does the average game take? I had to retire from Civ because each playthrough was a 20-30 hour commitment - cutting in to my Ozbargaining time

Depends on your level of micro, the starting period for the game, and when you want to finish. Beginning in 1066 (High Middle Ages) in the base game to the maximum time in 1453 (without conversion to a Europea Universalis IV game to continue) probably takes you between 40-80 hours.

      • Damn, spent 30 hours last Easter weekend for Civ… If I have to spend 80 hours I might have to take a very long sick leave at work next week.

One of Paradox's finest. I've spent countless hours on this game. Get it.

Hmm..Already in my steam library? OK then.

can't recommend enough, but not for those with twitchy fingers and limited attention spans

I have no idea what this game is, but it's free so i'll take it. Thanks OP

It's a murder and incest simulation set in medieval Europe.

      • There are other kinds of simulators ??

I was thinking about redeeming this game but then i realised that the DLC is $141.29 USD to buy seperately and that's at 50% off. There is the Love bundle which does contain all the DLC in one bundled package but even that's $84.50 USD at 50% off. And the base game is probably gimped compared to what is available in all the DLC. And i have this thing about just having to get all the DLC for a game to make is complete.

A case of OCD it seems. Maybe seek some help for that? ;-)

    • The base game is not very gimped. It's about as much of a full version as every Paradox game. Mostly the DLC packs let you play as overly powerful nations, arabic and barbarian nations. There are a large variety of nations and ways to play without needing to obtain all of those packs, Paradox just love making many expensive small DLC's; they have 233 products marked as DLC on the Steam store. But for the most part, the vanilla game is enough :D

Paradox's aim is that you'll pay individually for the DLC packs you want, rather than buying all of them.

      • It's about as much of a full version as every Paradox game.

Not the case in Victoria 2. The base game is playable but only with the two extra expansions is Vic2 much more polished and enjoyable. I still invested more than 100 hours in Vic2 base game before buying the expansions and won't regret that though.

I suppose CKII base game is more polished and it's finally the right time for me to get on board. And even with just the base game, there seems to be quite a few interesting mods to sink extra hours in.

        • Mate, it's free - what better time to get on board than now when you do not have to make any financial investment. If you are waiting for a time when they pay you to play CKII, then you will be waiting a long time.

        • @Lysander: The better time than this is when GOG give it for free.;) I consider all my games on Steam as rented. When I find great merit in a Steam game, I will try to get a copy on GOG even if that means I'd pay more. That's when I consider a game truly bought.

As you said, I will probably have to wait for a long time to get a DRM-free copy of CK2 after Paradox stops milking it with any more DLC's. At the moment, GOG only has previous versions of Paradox's grand strategy games.

          @serin:

Well, often you will get the game on GOG for free when you have it in your Steam account (GOG Connect) so this makes this still the best time to get it.

I prefer DRM-free too but technically even on GOG you do not buy games, you buy a license which can be revoked. It is still not your property in the legal sense. Source: Working in the legal field, with one specialisation being IP.

  • I can't even unpause the tutorial

I wouldn't be surprised if it was because your half brother assassinated the unpause button.

Thanks OP! Because of your post I found out that the publisher is remaking my favourite story/turn based game, "BattleTech"

  • I've got over 2000 hours into this game and I'm still learning. I'd say start with the base game and if you like it, start getting the dlc. Maybe two of the major ones each sale (they're usually all 50-75% off every couple of months). As somebody mentioned, YouTube tutorials are the way to go to begin with.

It's a steep learning curve, but definitely worth it for the crazy storylines you can stumble upon and create within the game.
