You can get a similar model but with a 500GB HDD and the camera included from Umart (the Lenovo G560).

Obviously they might be of different build quality, but it's hard to see a $1,100 saving.

    • With 250GB HDD,Core i3 processor,4GB RAM and 1Years Warranty- for $649
      With 320GB HDD,Core i5 processor,4GB RAM and 1Years Warranty- for $749
      With 500GB HDD,Core i5 processor,4GB RAM and 2Years Warranty- for $899

Sorry, I should have been more clear.

        There's a Lenovo G560 06798HM with a Core i3-370M, 4G DDR3, 500G HDD, DVDRW, Webcam and a 15.6" LED LCD for $640 at umart.com.au.

This Edge 15" has the same basic specs but only a 250GB hard drive and has no webcam.

While there may be build differences that aren't apparent in the basic specs, it's hard to see them being worth $1,100.

        • +3

Then ignore the $1,100 saving. It's just marketing ploy.

For a ThinkPad, it's still a good price, Sir.

      • +2

vicky, I think you need to change the title to "ThinkPad Edge".
"Lenovo Laptop Edge" almost sounds like Lenovo's generic brand, and would more likely make people compare it to the ones in MLN/CentreCom.

maybe "total savings AU$1,106.65" means the discount on all three models combined?

  • +3

These are thinkpads which are another step up or 2 in quality from the ideapads that are on sale. I think we have been desensitised by the recent prices from MLN/Centrecom somewhat and so makes it a little bit difficult to get excited about another core i3 deal.

A nice deal in its own right, but I think we're a bit worn down by all the bargains haha.

      I agree.
MLN had the same model during boxing day sale for $600.
My brother was tossing up whether to buy the $600 Lenovo G560 or the slightly lesser model for $500.
since he didn't really need the grunt so he bought the $500 model + spend $130 on the 1TB 2.5" HDD (USB3).
he walked out with a grin on his face.

I fail to see how this particular deal a bargain.

The claim that you can save around $1000 is clearly a bait for some poor suckers who have no idea.
I will Neg this deal because of this ridiculous claim.

Lol all stores compare their price to rrp, obviously when buying you would compare it to market price. And these are thinkpads, not ideapads.

        • -5

thinkpad, disassemble it you will see no diff with ideapad. :)

        • +4

I have disassembled them, and you Sir, are wrong.

      • Agree with you.

    • Alas… I have mentioned in previous ThinkPad post that we should have a wiki for it.
"Better Quality" doesn't seem to be tangible to some people (especially the less tech-savvy) as they usually just compare specs :(

      IMHO, you shouldn't neg it.
That "Total Savings" is always there whether they have a sale or not.
We can easily spot which one's good value simply by comparing previous ThinkPad posts.
They come up pretty regularly anyways.

These are more business type notebooks.
Built to last but the specs aren't the latest/greatest.
Which is fine if I'm using one at work.
The longer it takes me to do something the better ;)

    Updated Title and description

  • This really is a business system: From their website:
    Wireless WWAN accessories
    No Wireless WAN support

  • They are a good machine, whatever the price is doing at the time.

At least the stlye is updated, sick of plain black!

  • I think Lenovo are trading on the good name of the ThinkPad with this Edge series. They've always been $650-$950 price range as best I can tell, and there are plenty of other similar deals out there for the Edge 15 line.

    For example:

    Lenovo Edge 15 03012QM $699 @ CCPU

Advantages the vicky141 listed ozbargain deal has:
    - 370M CPU beats 350M CPU
    - 4GB beats 2GB
    - Easy to buy warranty upgrades
    - $50 cheaper

    Advantages the CCPU deal has:
    - Win 7 Pro instead of 7 Home Premium (not available from Lenovo Shop)
    - Includes Bluetooth & Webcam (worth $15.40 & $38.50 respectively from Lenovo Shop)

I'd say the vicky141 listed deal has the overall advantage… unless you needed 7 Pro in which case it isn't an option.

I'm not saying this is a bad deal or anything, I just really hate it when they try and make the deal look far better than it is. I'd say it's maybe 5% off the street price.

  • One of my friend is getting the ThinkPad Edge 15" $749 offer (i5 460M, 4GB, 320GB). I have also been doing my own research on notebooks as I need a new one by February (need to return my existing one to work) — and ThinkPad Edge comes up near the top of my list.

After all, it's a ThinkPad. It's not T or W series and has no metal cage and all the other ThinkPad goodies, although Lenovo has used thick strengthend plastic so it can still stand up to a beating (which is why those ThinkPad Edge are so THICK!)

And the keyboard — it's a blended version of traditional ThinkPad keyboard with chiclet/island style keyboard. It has a nice travel with curved surface, and gives you nice feedback when you type on it. VERY IMPORTANT feature for business users and whoever bangs on the keyboard for extended hours everyday. It's not something people who only use WASD keys would appreciate. I went to DSE last night to sample some laptops yesterday — eyeing on more expensive, better equiped and slimmer/sexier Asus K42/K52 lappies. But their keyboard sucks, and I am writing them off my list now.

And IdeaPads? Very different class. It's like comparing a Dell Vostro with Dell Inspiron, or a HP ProBook with a Compaq Presario. With notebooks it is a lot more than the sum of CPU + RAM + HDD + screensize…

Anyway. I am waiting for a sale for Lenovo Edge 14. I still can't get it why you get one inch less but has to pay a lot more — and that applies to pretty much all brands.

    • We have the 13" & 15" egdes, i love the 13's.

Suprisingly good quality and resistant to markings of the more tradional design, none sent back for warranty or DOA, cant say the same for the x201, which i have.

I like ideapads for the styling, its a big chnage and we can thank Lenovo for that, for the hardware well they are still well below par from my experience

    • Scotty! I wish, you post the Dell vostro I5 deal for 660 again or less than that :)
