Wedding Photographer & Videographer in Adelaide

Hi All,

My partner and I will be tying the knot in 11 months time and we are getting all the planning done now to avoid pressure and stress from procrastinating. We are looking for a good and reasonably priced photographer and recommendations for a videographer as well. Our budget for this is approx 2K (able to extend further if necessary). We have been looking around and photography packages are around the 2.5 - 3K mark. With the ozbargain spirit, i know there could be a better deal around. We are looking for a whole day photography package.

If anyone had any experience in this and would like to share their recommendations and tips, we will be all ears and will greatly appreciate it!!

Kind regards <3

Congratulations! Having looked recently I can confirm there is not much in the way of bargains when it comes to wedding photography. Also you get what you pay for, and most of the really good ones are at least double your budget. You might be able to knock off a couple of hundred dollars or get a freebie (photo booth or something) if you visit them at the wedding expo. You've just missed one, but there is another in September. Good luck! Turn your direct messaging on if you would like me to send you some personal recommendations.

    • Thanks for the suggestion djsweet! Definitely would be keen to attend the wedding expo. Yes please pm me recommendations :)

Can you believe, It was actually cheaper for us fly down a first rate photographer from Asia then book ones locally? It's crazy expensive here.

fly down a first rate photographer from Asia then book ones locally

No wonder it's so expensive if you're booking two separate photographers!

    • couldn't be because the Cost of living difference in the two countries? Photographers and videographers are people who need to make ends meet too. Plus equipment is expensive

    • So is many other business. Rates in Asia are always cheaper. Especially when the crew give you discount because for them its considered a 'holiday' out of their country..

But apart from that, it is actually illegal (almost certain they are on holiday visa) and also risky.. I have known a photographer who got deported on airport because they found out what they're up to

And it also hurts the local business

      • We chose him based purely on talent and not illegal at all, he is an international photographer with the proper visas. The comparable low cost was just a bonus.

        • That's good (and rare). Every international photo/videog I met came with holiday visa. So your photographer actually has an Australia Working Visa??

@John: Yep, paperwork was hell. My next wedding will be at Vegas half drunk.

    • I've never actually thought of that! Yeah i agree with you it's pretty exp here it makes sense as to why people would find a cheaper alternative… overseas!

I'm a wedding videographer in Perth. From experience, the only best way to score a bargain in this industry is if you found a really talented new vendor getting into the market, and they wanted to start a portfolio. But that is a risky game.. but you can try them out with engagement session, if they perform there.. better likelihood they will perform OK on the wedding day (still risk involved though)

Is your 2K budget for both photo AND video? Even for each that is considered low budget.. and you wont be getting really good quality for that price. For the budget, I recommend you stretch it and book either a good photo OR a good video.. pick one you really want - splitting the budget may only give you an average photo and average video. And then for the other, if you still have budget left to spend.. try find a really low/cheap package that you wouldn't mind if the quality is not good (eg. look for new startup businesses)

Also, I recommend cutting the budget elsewhere. Photo and video lasts after the wedding days are over, so its worth the investment. Whereas your flowers, dress, cake, invitation, venues etc.. generally only last for the day. Honeymoon, you can opt for an affordable relaxed one.

    • Hi John! thanks for the comment, it's a big help to us. Our budget is not set, we were just wondering if there ever was a good photographer for that rate. We may want to have a great photographer that can capture a lot so our budget may extend some more towards getting the right one. I also understand that we essentially get what we pay for so it's worth looking into it a bit more.

Great advice from John. If I was getting married again, I would forgo the photos and spend more on the video. A great video really catches the feel of the wedding, much better than the posed photos. But I'm sure others have differing viewpoints. Good luck with it all!

    • Thanks for the comment madreece! I was thinking that too which one is better, we will lean towards photography and spend a little on there.

We hired www.forgetmenotfilms.net for our wedding. They're not in business anymore, but they do know others in Adelaide who are. Maybe worth reaching out.

    • Thanks for the recommendation bumblebeetuna! I'll make enquiries :)

  • Congrats!
We got married in Jan, our photographer was amazing but Melbourne based.
He may travel, look him up on insta or Facebook
    Jason Robins Photography.

If you're looking Radelaide based, just hit them up if they will offer a discount if you pay in full up front. Jason allowed us to do this, got a 5% discount and he threw in a couple of little extras.
Same goes for all your vendors.
I don't know how you'll go getting a photographer AND a videographer in your price range. Definitely don't go too cheap on your photos, they are worth the money.

  • My daughter does school photos in Adelaide and we both know a couple who do photos (and I think videos??) for friend's weddings etc.
If you're interested in getting in touch with them PM me your contact details.

I would question the need for video, would you actually watch it? or is it a get it done just in case thing? why not install a spy cam on each of you? https://www.overwatchsecurity.com.au/products/t186-1080p-min…

We contacted our local TAFE and enquired about any students that would be interested. We fell in love with the style of one of them (she was in her final year and building portfolio), we paid above her asking rate and was well within your budget.

    • Lol great idea.. but would you actually watch a footage from spycam? haha..

The thing with a watchable video is it needs to have good audio too, if audio sucks you might as well record it with a potato. So if you're looking for new player make sure he/she is well equipped on audio side. Otherwise look for video package that only offers basic coverage (eg. ceremony, speeches - flat edit) just something you can rewatch and show ur kids one day. You can probably get this below $1000.

So make sure it is a decent audio chip?
