Just found this deal for the new “Pro” version of the Viofo A119. This includes the GPS mounting box.

I know I'm going to get roasted with “yeah yeah, but the A119s does 60fps and is like $10 now…” or something along those lines. I don’t know. I’m not a car cam expert. This is just the new model that I thought people might be interested in.

$133 on special. Normal price is $145 or there abouts in AU dollarydoos…

        • I just tried it from another computer from this post and at first it comes up as $145, but then after waiting for about 10 seconds, it comes down to $132 on its own… :/

So long as it's reducing and the top comments are "give it a min"…

          ¯_(ツ)_/¯

OK, where is this $10 A119s deal?

  • Not yet proven. I'd wait to see if there are any early batch failures.

  • What’s the best value storage card for these?

  • What's the main different between this and the normal non s

    • +1

From what I can see the Pro will do 1440p30 vs 1080p60 for the S, and the pro has an extra layer of glass in the lens.

      • They both 1440p30

  • I don't understand what the difference between this and the A119 standard is? It looks identical to the one I bought 6 months ago except it's 40% more expensive.

    • different sensor & lens

this pro will read the number plate into text like police speeding cam

      • +1

Can I see that number plate to to text in action somewhere?

Thanks for the deal pegaxs, much appreciated!

  • Anyone knows where I can get this professionally installed, so I dont have wires hanging everywhere?
    I am in Sydney.

    • Any auto electrician would probably do it but be prepared $$$.

      • Hmm. you reckon they would charge like $100 or something?
Wish they bought out wireless ones…

        • Wireless electricity. Nice!

        • -1

If you want a wireless one, get an action cam, say, like a GoPro or similar. These are battery powered and don’t require a cable.

        • @jelko:

          rechargable battery?

        • @pegaxs:

Thanks might look at a older version.

    • ive seen bendas installations recommended a few times on whirlpool

    • Depend on which car you are driving, it could be as quick as a 5 mins DIY job. You can try searching youtube for installing dash cam video and see if it is too hard to do.

    • I got mine installed by Strathfield Car radios. Booked in, Gave them the A119v2, power magic Pro and took them half an hour and $90
It’s been done so well I can’t find the PMP…

Tried the DIY option using a few videos and got stuck on which fuse addon slot to use so bailed out…

  • Can someone educate me on why a gps function is useful

    • Maybe to dispute speeding infringements? Or if the police said they caught you in the 50 zone doing 60, but your video shows you doing 58 in a 60 zone?

The GPS speed reading is not calibrated and may not be accurate, so it may or may not stand up as the basis of proof if it is taken to court. YMMV…

      • Ah cool so gps means i can see speed. Had no idea

    • +2

For me 99% of the reason to have one is automatic time/date syncing with GPS satellites.

It can be useful if you don't drive your car for a week and lose the settings, the GPS will fix the time/date up and you won't have incorrectly named video files on your sd card.

  • It’s hard to tell from the YouTube vision because YT compresses the video and you lose quality and I could not see what settings they were on. Either way, as soon as a car was more than 5 metres away you couldn’t read the number plate.

One thing to consider is that frame rate can be more important. If two cars are coming together at 60kmh, that is a closing speed of 120kmh, or if my maths is right, 33 metres a second. At 30FPS that means the car moves more than a metre for each frame…. or about half a metre at 60FPS. They don’t say what the shutter speed is, or if it differs from the frame rate, but there is potential for a lot of blur. (Trying panning your phone camera at 30 and 60FPS and see the difference)

I know a better lens and image processing can make a difference but 1080 at 60FPS has a lot of appeal.

BTW- If you use a fee free credit card (like 28) the price is around $129 in AUD because of their better exchange rate.

How does this compare to the unit mentioned? I'm looking at getting rid of my kaiser bass r10+ due to it being absolute rubbish and upgrading to something more reliable.
