Good one! was looking to buy this!

    • Do we think it's too late to get on the Xbox One train? I feel like new consoles will only be around 2 years away. Just don't want to buy it and for it to be outdated within 2 years. Thoughts?

      • +5

        For $250?

Sounds like a lot of hours of fun for not too much money.

Also new consoles can be pretty expensive.

        • Also sea of thieves, which is great (and not available on PS4)

        • -1

          @Keef:

Also sea of thieves, which is great

          Metascore: 69 | User Score: 5.2

          It's not

        • @KLoNe: housemate plays it a lot on PC, he likes it. Looks fun. Ocean is pretty.

Most of those reviews relate to the cost, and HM got Game Pass for that reason.

        • +3

@KLoNe: I don't let metacritic influence whether I enjoy a game or not.

        • @KLoNe:

          I've been really enjoying it.

I guess it's one of those games that people either love or hate.

If you can get on with 3 mates it's an absolute blast.

      • Not at all late in my opinion. Multiplatform games are still coming out for these consoles so they are still relevant. Get this console if you also like to play 4K blurays. If you already have a PS4 then I dont recommend getting this. Also depends heavily on what you're after. A media player? A gaming platform to play with friends? and the list goes on.

      • nah its fine, also at that price buy the console sell the 2 games, buy gamepass play the exclusives(sea of theives, halo 5, gears 4) and then resell it

      • also after new console releases they usually release games on both platforms for another year or so after that

      • Xbox has Kodi and VLC. Controllers are way more versatile in that it plug and play on PC. And Xbox controller better overall.

  • Great deal. Great price. I'd be all over this if I didn't have two already. Plenty of life left in the system IMHO.

  • Is the Sea of Thieves download code the same as a play anywhere code?

Will I be able to play on PC too?

    • +5

Yes. As long as the game is redeemed on the Xbox digital store, the game will be cross platform on PC and Xbox One. Source: Ive done this myself

    • If you have a friend or relative with XBox One/S/X, ask him/her to create another XBox account and have that account signup for GamePass 14 day trial. Using that account, you can go to Windows 10 AppStore and download and play Sea of Thieves for 14 days free.

This deal, while good, does feel that you are paying some $$$ for the two games (which are both online based games). 1TB XBox One S is nice, but if you are getting XBox One S, price is generally a key factor to consider. With GamePass, I don't think it is worthwhile getting expensive game bundles unless the games are not in GamePass and you really want those games.

      • +1

Instead of asking a friend with an Xbox to do it for you there is always the option of just signing up for the trial yourself through the gamepass website https://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/xbox-game-pass

        • Nice, even better. Maybe keep on doing that whenever you feel like playing any of the PlayAnywhere game in GamePass on a PC.

        • @netsurfer: I think previously the gamepass was only accessible through XBOX but now that they have added some PC titles to it they opened it to everyone through web browser. Hopefully we get the XBOX 360 emulator ported to PC at some point so we can play the classic games using a wired 360/one controller.

        • @Agret: Only PlayAnywhere titles added to GamePass are playable on PC.

XBox One/S/X has XBox360 emulator included essentially. That's how backward compatibility works on XBox One. Microsoft won't make it available on PC though.

        • @netsurfer: Microsoft want to make it available on PC but it is a technical challenge they are still working on.

          https://www.pcgamer.com/phil-spencer-leaves-door-open-for-xb…

          https://www.pcgamer.com/phil-spencer-wants-to-bring-og-xbox-…

Because of the XBOX One being a fixed hardware spec it is much easier for them to have it run well on there and really optimize parts of the emulation. To get it onto PC they will have to overcome some issues still.

Microsoft would love to have more people subscribe to software as a service (see: office 365, talks of subscription based win10) as it is pretty reliable income compared to people who buy a handful of titles off the Windows store.

  • +8

No Man's Sea is a Puddle of Disappointment, but still a good deal.

    • +1

Yeah, should be able to sell it off easily.

    • +1

All of the videos I have seen of this games is random people joining a team and being voted to be locked in the brig and everyone on the team laughing their arses off until that person quits and then they laugh some more…

  • -2

Give me AC:O and another game and I'm sold!

    • AC:O is actually really good fun! Probably the best AC since Black Flag IMO. Would definitely recommend jumping on it if a sale pops up. Got mine last week from Steam and have not been regretting it at all.

  • +3

The only way they can sell Destiny now is to give it away…

  • +2

Destiny 2 without the expansion lol no wonder it's being given away

  • -3

Does anyone know if the Sea of Thieves code is playable on Windows 10 also?

    • Did you just post this without reading? Already answered here…

    • Yes it is a digital download code as per the deal description, not physical so will be Play Anywhere.

  • -1

On a crappy old mobile. So no missed it. And by the way chill out

    • +3

You claim it's a dead console with 2 dead games, but a decent price? How'd you work that one out…

You joined 9 minutes ago to post this fabulous comment.

      • I did. And you spent the time looking up my profile and replying without even adding anything of substance. xD

Let's be real. Xbox has lost this generation. The only thing going for consoles ATM is exclusives, and Xbox has pretty much none for various reasons. Their major marketing point this past year has been 'YOU CAN PLAY IT ON PC AS WELL' (Do I really need to explain why this is such a poor tactic?).

Destiny 2 is a giant flop that has already cannibalized and scared away its own playerbase. It launched with less content than D1 at launch, seemingly without learning anything from the giant mess of a lifecycle that game had. The DLC has not only fragmented the already waning playerbase, but has also prevented base-game players from progressing and accessing content which was previously available to them.

Sea of Thieves on the other hand is basically No Man's Sky with a pirate roblox skin. Visually impressive, and fun to muck about with friends for a few hours, but shallow as a puddle and failing to deliver most of the claims the game made before it came out. No progression system. No endgame content. You have literally 2 things to do in the game; Kill skeletons for 'quests' and grief other players for no tangible reward. This was supposed to be the exclusive that put Xbox back on the map, but it really just buried them even further like their shitty treasure fetch-quests lol.

It's a good price because XB1 hasn't been sub 300 from what I've seen, and it might be worth it for those looking for a cheap, current gen console to play some of the games they missed out on in the past.

This is coming from someone with no horse in the console wars. I'm a PC guy, but would be more inclined to get a PS4 if I had a gun to my head. I'm just calling it how I see it. Fanboys don't @ me.

        • +1

Price is okay for a XBox One S 1TB (not that great to be honest). You are paying for those 2 games in some shape or form at this price. For most people, those 2 games won't be attractive. The Amazon deal was cheaper (but it came with Minecraft). Aldi had some decent deals too. If you used AMEX cashback last year or the year before, XBox One S 512GB with 1 game was essentially $199.

I have PC, XB1S, XB1X and PS4 Pro. Honestly, due to crypto mining boom, PC gaming is not cost effective at the moment. It's fine if you bought a graphics card two years ago, but if you want to get into serious PC gaming now, the price doesn't look attractive at all. Sure, you get the best graphics and the best frame rate (+ FreeSync/GSync), but the cost does add up.

XBox One marketing tactics last year were: GamePass and the 'most powerful' console (4K ready) - XBox One X (cannot beat PC, but yes, it is currently the most powerful console). PlayAnywhere failed because those ones cost more than XBox One only version. Forza 7 was $29 pre-owned for XB1/X version on feeBay. Why would anyone bother paying 3X more for the PlayAnywhere version? "Exclusive" problem is caused by lack of 1st party developers (Bungie left - because they didn't want to be limited to XBox games), has nothing to do with PlayAnywhere. So, the key current gen multi-player games are all cross platform.

PlayAnywhere comments were about taking advantage of it to play sea of thieves free on PC (for at least 14 days). There are other games in GamePass which are also PlayAnywhere edition (so you can install them on Windows 10 PC).

For general public, if you simply go for the cheapest XB1S 512GB or 1TB package when available (~$220 for 1TB; lower for 512GB), you get a 4K blu-ray player, at least 14 days GamePass, possibly 14+30 days GamePass. So, you can play Halo 5, Gears of war 1,2,3,4, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Mad Max, Sunset Overdrive, some of the Resident Evil games, and many other games (inc. some XB360 ones). Sea of thieves is in there too. Pretty decent if you haven't played those games before. If you fulfilled the GamePass monthly goals, Microsoft will give you discount vouchers from time to time. XBox One's controller is quite good (better than PS4's one to be honest).

A proper bargain XB1S is attractive to people if they have not played most of the interesting games in GamePass. $220, you cannot even buy a decent PC graphics card for 1080p gaming right now (nor an Apple iPod Touch).

Certainly, if you have a PC with a powerful graphics card, XB1/S/X probably doesn't make sense. PS4/Pro would make more sense (if those exclusive games interest you). For general public though, XB1S is a good solution to play games cheaply.

        • @netsurfer: I agree with all of your points, and it seems like we're echoing each other.

I wasn't trying to imply any 'pc master race' shenanigans, Was just stating where my perspective on this situation came from. You're 100% right, it's pretty much not worth building a 'gaming' PC at this point in time unless you don't have a budget.

Bungie left, Scalebound (arguably a potential system seller) was cancelled as well as Fable Legends, putting Microsoft in a shitty position. All they have now is 343 trying to keep Halo on life support, Forza, & Sunset Overdrive.

The point I made about 'Play Anywhere' was referring to the fact that they're trying to resort to using Microsoft's Windows installbase in order to scrounge up a few more sales because they know they can't sell their hardware to someone who owns a PC due to the fact that their exclusives have thus far not been enticing enough to convince people to buy-in
(If Halo was a play anywhere title, I guarantee this would be a different story).

I agree. A cheap current gen console to pick up and play games you missed out on is a good idea, but my point still stands about XB1 being a dead console, and these 2 games being equally as dead.

        • @Sporange: If you look at consoles from a serious PC gamer's perspective, you get a different view. Whether that's entirely objective is debatable. Essentially, you would only be interested in consoles with exclusives you cannot play on PC. That essentially leaves you with Sony PS4 and Nintendo Switch.

XBox One and PS4 both have opted for x86 based hardware (CPU and GPU). Furthermore, game development libraries are pretty much all cross platform ready, exclusives are purely business decisions. Unlike Sony, Microsoft have no excuse to make exclusive games only available on XBox One for this generation.

Microsoft's PlayAnywhere is simply a footnote. No 3rd party would do it (why would they promote Microsoft App Store)? They have no issue selling you two copies of the same game. Retailers charge more for PlayAnywhere copies.

When you look at it objectively, people interested in XBox One S clearly are after cost effective gaming (with 4K UHD blu-ray playback an added bonus). From that perspective, it is an attractive offering. Even XBox One X is only attractive due to PC graphics cards being way over priced. How well the platform is doing isn't a key point for potential XBox One purchasers. Game makers have no issue compiling a copy of the game for XBox One/S/X so the platform being dead is an overstatement.

  • what was the cheapest an xbox s 1tb has been so far? regardless of games.

    • Here I'd say

      • cheers! hope another deal like that comes along soon

        • I'd say it seems unlikely for a while, I think Amazon AU was just getting rid of stock, most probably because the minecraft console wasn't a big seller. So this is a great deal if you're after the console.

        • yea that is true. decisions! can't find any sale between this price and the amazon price as well.

  • Can the games be traded in for full price at ebgames?

    • All games whether sealed or used are treated as used in terms of value when you trade in.

      • But these will be tokens. Can you even trade those?

        • Destiny 2 is a physical game

  • Nice deal.

I mainly game on PC and this is really tempting. If I had more free time on my hands I'd probably pick this up.

Recently got one of these consoles after having Sony all along. What a complete pain in the ass this console is. Bare in mind I'm not a regular gamer (I still play Crash Team Racing on my PS3 for funzies) and mainly wanted this for 4K playback as the price point was about the same as a 4K standalone player. Massive update upon initiation which failed three times, forced to open a Microsoft account, and then it doesn't even play Blu Ray out of the box. I thought it was broken. Microsoft store auto links gave error messages. The home screens are ugly and messy. Got it working in the end (thanks Google!) but the initial experience means I'm not sure I even want to keep this. It's hard work. Life is too short for this.

  • I’d like to get an Elite Controller at some point. Any idea what the lowest price it’s gone for? I checked EB’s store but couldn’t find it.

    • Isn’t on our store as were completely out of the stock at the moment. We’ve been waiting on a shipment from Microsoft since before Christmas and we’ve just been told it’ll be sometime in June.

      • E3 time, eh? Guessing it will be an updated Elite with Bluetooth.

  • This or Amazon XBOX 1 TB Minecraft version which is down to $299 again?

    • Neither. Amazon had the 1TB Minecraft deal at $220 before. For OZB, why would you pay $299 for it? If you didn't get it for $220 at the time, there was obviously some doubt, and all of the sudden another $79 extra makes sense?

If for some odd reason, you must get one now, this deal is better (especially if you can sell the Sea of Thieves on feeBay for around $60 - dunno why, but some people were willing to pay that much. Probably sell Destiny 2 as well. Don't forget feeBay and PayPal fees.).

  • Anyone received an eBay notification saying theirs has been shipped yet? Either it hasn't been sent off yet or EB Games just don't mark it as shipped through eBay.
