My wife and I are heading to CanCun and Mexico city in June. 3 nights and 2 nights respectively.
We are 27 and 24yo. Keen on seeing the night life, culture and history.
Drug Lord jokes aside, what should I do? Any tips from those who have been?

Worth a trip down to Tulum, beautiful little town and can tour the Mayan ruins.
Thanks! I'll add that in. Thinking of doing a tour which combines with with cenotes trip etc.

This one looks even better
Yep the cenotes are definitely worth checking out, so refreshing jumping into the cool fresh water after walking around in the sticky heat all day!
From Cancun a day trip to the ruins of Chichen Itza makes for a long, but worthwhile, experience. Plenty of tour options available which will include transfers, guided tour, lunch and a side destination or two (we got stuck with a "shopping" stop on the way - overpriced souvenirs).
Awesome! Maybe I can do a morning tour on my last day, then go to the airport afterwards :)
There are so many things to do there that 2d/3n won't suffice.
Go to Playa delfines, water so blue!
Xcaret is a good place to go but will take the whole day.
Visit one of the Mayan ruins, best one is Chichen Itza IMO.
Going to some of the tourism places with tour is normally much cheaper than going yourself.
Mentioning the obvious, but shop around for the tour.
Mexico City Teotihuacan.
Hey mate! Wow Xcaret looks INSANE! What an awesome idea!
Sounds like Playa is maybe something to by yourself in an afternoon?
Thanks so much. Any more advice?
Re your reply to Allloallo’s comment, don’t think you can do half day before airport to Chichen unless your flght is in the evening as all tours leave in the morning, sightseeing, lunch maybe another sightseeing then back late afternoon (some earlier).
I personally like Chichen the most to be honest.
Xcaret is great, but very tiring day & you’d certainly enjoy things more if you could speak Spanish as they have many shows in spanish. Most activties finish in the afternoon so do them first!
Good advice!
When you said Playa I got a bit confused which one you were referring to as Playa itself means beach.
But if you were referring to delfines (dolphins) then yes a couple hours there suffice by yourself.
Are you staying around Playa del Carmen? There’s no uber at Playa del Carmen. There’s uber in Cancun itself but.
Where to stay? Definitely airbnb as they are significantly cheaper & everywhere. Have you got an account?
Playa del carmen is a good option as most touristy locations would be closer than cancun itself.
Get uber from airport as it’s a lot cheaper (most people at the airport won’t tell you about uber though as they are totally against uber).
But given you are only there 3 days, somwhere in cancun could be an option as closer to the airport.
I was thinking of staying in the main hotel area.

Avoid being kidnapped or murdered should be your first priority.
Yep. Udate your dental records beforehand.
Also ensure your will and personal affairs are in order.
By personal affairs, you mean set up your gofundmycartelransom.com account in readiness. :p
Cave diving must be good around Cancun- I've got an American relative who lives there for that reason.
Drug Lord jokes aside
What if it's not a joke? :P

Streets of Cancun run red with 14 murders in 36 hours
https://nypost.com/2018/04/11/streets-of-cancun-run-red-with…
Mexico’s most popular holiday hotspot has become overrun with drug gangs, as violence in the tourist party town escalates to unprecedented levels.
Cancun has seen 14 murders in just 36 hours — the highest ever in the country’s recorded history, according to Noticaribe.
The latest violence on April 4 saw 14 people killed and at least five others left with gunshot wounds, in six separate instances in the party town.
The figures surpass Cancun’s previous record of nine killings in a day, which was set on Nov. 25, 2004.
Ooo boi. Anyone got any deals on Kevlar clothing? Hahahaha
Arrive in Cancun, jump on the ferry and get over to isla mujeres and spend your three nights on an awesome little island. Hire a golf cart and explore.
