RJ45 Ethernet Cables

Hey Guys

Are these Cat6 RJ45 Ethernet Cables good?

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Network-Cable-CAT6-1000Mbps-Life…

I was looking at getting Cat6a but they are approx double price. My base cable is Clipsal Cat5e but my inside cables I use a combination of Cat5e and mostly cat6 so I don't know if the extra $$ for cat6a with make a difference?

Im replacing my current cables that a long and messy with nice neat 50cm (0.5m) ones

  • How fast is your internet connection and are you doing any file transfer (with high-speed drives) for backup?

  • Edit: You won't benefit from CAT6 unless you have 10 gig networking cards / routers with 10GBASE-T. CAT5e goes up to 5 gigs.

  • You're not going to saturate your Cat5e bandwidth just downloading stuff from the internet, so you really only need to be concerned if you're doing lots of internal network transferring. And your network is only as good as your weakest link (router/switch/cables/terminations/network card), so if you're using a mix of cat5 and cat6 - your cat6 is a waste.

  • I can get cat5e 50cm cables for $2.45 and cat6 cables for $3.45

I need 5 so do I save the $5 or get the cat6

I just download mostly and stream movies with Netflix but I also stream from iMac using plex to other rooms in the House

I’m on a 100/40 plan and get a sync of approx 90 down and 36 up

    • My place is wired with cat5. I do a lot of internal transfer etc to my NAS plus downloads from net. It is fast. With the NBN only at 100 I see no need right now for cat6.

    • Future proof. Just a buck difference so why not buy those Cat6.

      • Considering how longs its taking for most of Australia to even get a HUGE 25Mbps connection to each home (sarcasm there), I wouldn't be too worried about future proofing, not when Cat5e can support 1Gbps transfer rates.

        • who cares about the internet in a couple of years when you're ripping your 4million K super-blu-ray porn onto your NAS you'll want to stream that to all the holoTVs in your house at 100gbps

VR porn is where it's at.
