Recommend Me Some Power over Ethernet Access Points

Need to extend my WiFi was told access points would be the best way so am thinking of investing in some PoE APs.

Give me your recommendations.

Prefer budget below $100 AUD maximum aiming for less than $50.

Otherwise I might just buy some routers in this price range on gumtree been getting some good deals on there on half decent routers lately.

  • Depends how fast you need. If its for basic internet surfing, I find older corporate access points more than suitable. Was previously using Cisco access points. One at the back and one at the front of the house.

Cisco AIR-MP21G-A-K9 Aironet 1200 Series Wireless Access Point

Since upgraded to Meraki MR18 access points. This is probably an overkill for home applications. Multiple 4k streaming no problems.

  • just get google wifi or one of the mesh systems (or if you want to go ubiquiti)

    • Trying to find some cheap ish options first.. can't find both of those for less than $250 anywhere

      • I'm on Telstra Cable (down 115, up 2.5 consistently). Was having some wifi issues and bought some POE, was getting about 60 at the poe locations (better than it was before, but not ideal). Bought Google Wifi when it was on sale for $3XX from JB HiFi and now getting about 90-95Mbps. May as well do it right once, than try it numerous times

        • Similar story here. Used Google Wifi to extend after considering PoE or a standard extender, also wondered if the two points were on the same circuit. It’s more expensive but works well and suspect based on the node placement that it’s hitting more than the range of a single POE point.

        • I have an impulse buy linksys ea9200 and some cat 6e cable on the way already so will probably go with that for now but somebody told me a dedicated access point might be better because no switch, router nonsense only the access point side is activated or some nonsense not sure if he is right or not (he confirmed gender) but yeah anyways don't mean to bag him but is he right in saying dedicated access point like a TP-Link eap225 or eap245 would be better over my linksys ea9200 coming in the mail for mostly if not totally wireless devices connecting.

I don't see myself using Ethernet wired connections any time soon but I assumed routers held their own if not better than dedicated access points or do they just add more clutter and require customizing and settings usage to get the thing working right?
