In Desperate Need of 3.5" HDDs?

Hi All,

I need a bunch of 3.5" HDD's, used is fine. I was wondering where should I look for these to get for a cheap price, and what attributes/model to look for when buying?

Edit:

I need at least 2 HDD (3.5" internal drive), 2TB capacity is fine but 3TB would be great.

  • Vague much?
How many, what size, used for what, budget….
Answer these and we could be more specific.

To vaguely answer your question, I would never buy a second hand HDD unless I was able to do a full scan of it to see if there is any busted partitions.

So that limits you to someone willing to lend you the HDDs while you do the scans.

      Details added.

Would S.M.A.R.t info reveal busted partitions?

    • There is nothing wrong with used HDDs but like you stated you need to check them over very well.

I've sold heaps of HDDs as used. For instance I sold my 6 x WD Red 3TB drives, all basically unused. Started a Server build, never got past the hardware side. But for every HDD I sold I uploaded a screenshot of the SMART and other data from CrystalDiskInfo.

  • Desperate need you say, how long can you wait? It may be cheaper to get them from overseas. Do you need to buy them in store?

    • Anywhere is fine, was thinking to go the "used" route, bad idea?

  • gumtree or overclockers

  • Burstcoin mining?

Otherwise, I wouldn't cheap out on hard drives as it would be a pain in the ass restoring the data.

  • drive choices determine what you intend to use the drive for. Are you using it in a NAS, are you using it for movies, are you using it for word documents (who knows you might have a heap of them)…
