457 Visa to Permanent Residency

Hey guys,

I'm now able to apply for the Permanent Residency from a 457 Visa (Business skilled visa sponsored by my work).
Someone already went through the application without an immigration agent?

I saw the cost is about $3600, otherwise, do you have any good places I could go where they can assist me to do it on my own or cheap immigration agent?

Thanks

do lots of reading and try to understand the process. this should now be your home page https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au

    its very straight-forward.

  • Which country were you originally from?
Your English seems good so a diy may be an option.

    • Thanks,

      I'm from France

I did it myself back in 2009, was straightforward, just a lot of forms to fill out and evidence gathering. Unless you think you are a special case and you need to convince them you should stay then I'd say do it yourself.

  • you really should begin your application as soon as possible as there are likely changes to the routes to PR coming.! they tried to change the requirements last year but it was unsuccessful…. this time many applicants may not be as lucky.

  • if single , no family/partner/spouse/kids , then easy to diy

as above, lodge before july this year, in case policy changes

i doubt it , as the only way out from incoming crisis is by open immigration floodgate

  • Thanks all guys,

I'm just confused with couple of technical words through the immigration website.
I guess i'll get my answers on google!

But just to make it clear,

I'm supposed to go through a visa 186 subclass, is that right?

We did it ourselves as well. It didn't even occur to us to look for a migration agent. The website will have most of the details and in our case, our case officer from the department of immigration answered any other questions we had. If I remember correctly, it was mostly us supplying every document they asked for.

Yep, I do believe you are correct in that the 186 subclass is the Employer Nominated permanent residency visa.

  • If you're on Ozbargain then immigration agent shouldn't be in your vocabulary!

You would be better off putting your money on France to win the World cup! The time it will take you to research and find the information you need online for free is minimal compared to the costs of immigration agents. Thousands of people go though the process each year, many of whom blog about it, write Facebook posts about it etc. Get your Google on!

  • Did it myself 2012

  • I used an immigration agent as my employer at the time paid for it. I could have done it quicker and with fewer mistakes, if I'd done it myself, so I'd definitely recommend doing it yourself.

  • Cool,

thanks all I get more confident to do it by myself!

  • Unless you have a difficult situation, DIY visa is fairly straight forward. Forms, evidence, cash, and time.

I came from a holiday visa to perm to citizen all by myself, no agent. An Aussie friend who married a USA woman with child choose to go the way of an agent… I did not understand why he felt he needed an agent, guess intelligence it important if your going to do it yourself. Maybe he was not smart enough to get through it on his own nor his wife???

  • Just be aware that if you provide false or misleading information or documents (even unintentionally) you may be barred from being granted a visa for three years (Public Interest Criterion 4020).

    • Thanks for the heads up, I'll be really careful and taking the time to fill everything

  • Question to all of you guys, what service can I use to "officially" translate my documents in English?

    Thanks

edit: found my answer on Google, everything is redirecting to NAATI

    • yes any translator with naati accreditation will work.
