Bank Blocked All Online Transactions after Buying a Woolworths Gift Card through Cashrewards

It only really turned into an issue because i was too lazy to chase the bank up about my transactions being blocked but thought i would publicly post my laziness online.

So i bought a Woolies gift card through cashrewards for the first time in January for the 5% discount. All was fine. worked out great. then i tried again a month later and i was getting something like "error, try again" so i stopped and tried again later. Eventually messaged woolworths and they said my bank has blocked the transaction. Fair enough, couldn't be bothered calling up the bank and unblocking it so i let it be. Now, its in April and all my payments have been blocked, my internet, mobile, gym, insurance etc. etc. :D

Had to finally call up and talk to VISA fraud as they thought my card had been stolen as gift cards are apparently an easy form of theft that people can then sell on sites like gumtree for actual money

      dunno. ever since i joined (and left) dodo as an internet provider i get a lot of "Craigieburn Vic" 03 spam calls so i usually ignore them and get voicemail of just a few seconds of silence. though the number the bank gave me to contact was a 1300 number so i'm not sure.

    ing direct is like that as well. each time i try to buy a woolworths egift card my account is instantly locked. i have to ring up and get it unlocked. ffs. so i switched to using macquarie bank and everything goes smoothly.

    I had a fraudulent Netflix charge for Argentine Peso currency on my Coles mastercard yesterday pending in my transactions. Would have thought that would raise a red flag with their fraud department but I had to call up to cancel the card.

    On another note, Netflix for that country is only $9 monthly so now I feel jibbed. Shoulda got the login for that account and cancelled my current one instead!

    Same thing happened to us with a different credit union. They said there was a lot of fraud recently involving the purchase of wish cards.

    I've had my Westpac Master CC blocked for buying a vodafone recharge and I also had my HSBC Visa Debit blocked for making an $8 purchase at a coles in Sydney, so almost anything can set off these stupid systems.

      ok? personally i was curious if anyone else had their cards completely blocked after only 1 purchase of an online woolworths gift card through cashrewards.

      however you can take whatever point you want from the post i guess

    My credit union called me (on a public holiday) because the Woolworths system had the old expiry date and they thought it was possibly fraudulent.

    I presume if I didn't answer they would have blocked the card as presumed stolen.
