Porting a Mobile to Get The Pixel 2XL

Hi there Ozbarginers,
New to this but have been researching as best I can but I need a little help.

I am 2 months away from contract ending with Telstra and ideally I want 2 Samsung s9 for my wife and I. Also need to stay with telstra for remote coverage.

What I am considering is porting out to a prepaid optus sim and then back to telstra to take advantage of https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/363865?page=14#comment (also will asking for the $10 p/m discount and 5gb upgrade)

Upon doing that I would look at offloading the pixels to purchase the samsungs s9 through the samsung education portal 10% discount (and also taking advantage of cashrewards current 10% cashback offer).

Theoretically this gives me an s9 on telstra 24 month $49 plan at the cost of a s9 ($1199 - 10% = $1079.10 - 10% cashback) $971.20 - resale of pixel 2xl

Can anyone a little more experienced then me shed any insights? Will this work? Will we keep our current numbers?

    Someone told me that Telstra will not consider you a new customer if its less than 1 month since you ported away.Maybe others can chime in……

      I did see some saying that. Also some said 3 months and some said it was a day turn around. I guess its try and try again as usual with telstra live chat.

    I got the Pixel 2 XL via Telstra. Sold it on gumtree for 1K and used the cash to get S9+ with 10% ebay code + cashrewards
